Rihanna Performs at Fan Jam

Rihanna performed on stage at the Pepsi Super Bowl Fan Jam on Thursday on Miami Beach, Florida. the 21-year old Barbadian beauty of a singer went through a playlist including ‘Wait Your Turn’, ‘Disturbia’, ‘Russian Roulette’ and ‘Hard’. Rapper Young Jeezy performed the last song alongside Rihanna. Justin Bieber, Timbaland, JoJo and Keri Hilson also performed at the Super Bowl music event while Nick Cannon and former Access Hollywood host Nancy O’Dell took over the hosting duties. A big shout out goes to the New Orleans Saints! Congratulations on winning the Super Bowl yesterday! Peyton Manning totally gave that game away.

Taylor Swift Gets Defense

Taylor Swift had a pretty shaky performance at the Grammy Awards last Sunday but she did come home with four awards. And if you ask the president of her label Big Machine, Scott Borchetta, they were well deserved. A couple of days after the Grammys, Scott said that he thinks that the country singer’s critics just don’t get it. He said “Maybe she’s not the best technical singer, but she’s probably the best emotional singer because everybody else who gets up there and is technically perfect, people don’t seem to want more of it. If you pick any of those artists that performed [at the Grammys], I’m sure you can go online and find something where you go, ‘ew.’ Maybe in that moment we didn’t have the best night. But in the same breath, maybe we did. And nobody is arguing with the awards.”

Ne-Yo breaks for Respect!

The singer has recently vowed to donate all of the proceeds from his new single, “Heroes”, to a non-profit organization called “Respect!” that promotes the abolition of domestic abuse. And given this circumstance, Ne-Yo thought it best to speak of the age-old incident on everyone’s lips: “What happened between Chris Brown and Rihanna was unacceptable, and we need to all work together and make sure it never happens again, to anyone.” Wouldn’t the sweetest irony right now be for Ne-Yo to get involved in a little rough love of his own? But he’s a good guy with a clean record, but as they say: when the wolf’s bane blooms and the winter-moon is bright…

Diddy Launches Business Academy

Sean Combs, aka Diddy, has become a multi-millionaire since his days of interning at a record company. The music mogul is now the CEO of Bad Boys Records and Sean John Clothing, the force behind MTV’s Making the Band, owner of restaurant chain Justin’s and has a development deal with Ciroc vodka. Now, the rapper wants to share his knowledge with others by launching his own business academy in NYC. Diddy said “I want to have an academy that’s known for building leaders. I feel that’s one of the things I can have an impact on. I want to take on more responsibility. I’m still honestly in search of how I can have the most positive effect that I can have.”

Funny American Idol Song Gets Recorded

Here’s a bit of good news for General Larry Platt, the American Idol hopeful who sang the comedy hit ‘Pants on the Ground’. The song has finally been recorded in a studio. However, the bad news is that the General has no idea that it has been released and a conflict is brewing because of it. Larry’s former manager Jason Mills, who’s releasing the song to radio stations, says that he doesn’t need Larry’s approval because it’s promotional and not for profit. That’s the case for now but given how much of a hit it has been with the public, it may not be the case for long. Jason says that he now represents the producer and that the producers has the right to release the tune without the General’s approval.

Amy Winehouse going to terrorize paradise once more

It seems the singer will be returned to her favorite vacation spot: the Caribbean. Apparently Amy Winehouse will be going to Jamaica but not to have fun, as she was warned by her record label that it is not a vacation. A source said the following about Amy Winehouse’s imminent departure: “She’ll fly out next week. She is really excited about going back because she loves the Caribbean so much. But she’s been told it’s not a party. She has to work.” Yeah, and Amy Winehouse is actually going to take that seriously… especially in the land of rum and happy grass.

Jay-Z’s magnificent wife

The rapper who is married to multi-Grammy winning artist Beyonce admitted that it has come to the point where he expects her to win awards simply due to the fact that she is so amazing. This is what Jay-Z said on the matter: “It’s almost got to a point where you just, you know, you’re almost numb to it because she’s so magnificent every single time.” Jay-Z does make a valid point. It has begun to be a bit redundant that Beyonce wins every single time… come on, leave a little for the little guys too! Could this be the future: Beyonce an Taylor Swift get all the awards and the rest get nothing? Now that just not darn fair, is it?

The 20-year old country singer also won Best Female Country Vocal Performance, Best Country Song for ‘White Horse’ and Best Country Album. In her acceptance speech for Album of the Year, Taylor said “This is the story that all of us, when we’re 80 years old and we are telling the same stories over and over again to our grandkids and they’re so annoyed with us…this is the story that we’re going to be telling over and over again - in 2010, that we got to win Album of the Year at the Grammys! Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Congratulations!

Simon Cowell: ‘Cheryl Cole is now more popular than me’

simon-cowell-picture

X Factor boss Simon Cowell has said his fellow judge Cheryl Cole is now more popular than him.

The 50-year-old star said he had to persuade Cole, 26, to join the show as she was hesitant at first.

He said to UK magazine new!: “I had to really, really twist Cheryl’s arm because she didn’t know how good she was going to be.

“I kept saying to her: ‘If you do this, not only is it going to be great for the show, but I think it’s going to be great for you.’ And she must now be the most popular person on TV - more than me! Annoying, but it happens.”

Lady Gaga Wins Grammys

Lady Gaga was up for five Grammy awards last night and before the festivities even went live on the air, the princess of pop already won two awards. The singer took home the awards for Best Electronic/Dance Album for ‘The Fame’ and Best Dance Recording for ‘Poker Face’. She went on Twitter after winning saying “We won two grammy’s already little monsters + I dedicate them to u! I ruined my makeup crying! Look for little monster suprise [sic] on the piano.” She was of course talking about her epic performance with Elton John. Just when I thought she could do nothing else to surprise me, she does.

Rihanna heartbroken over loss of girl

SPL141114_098

Rihanna is grieving the loss of a six-year-old girl who died of leukaemia.

Jasmina Anema, who was the face of the DKMS America One for Jasmina charity campaign, had befriended Rihanna, Kelly Rowland and Lamar Odom.

Rihanna in a statement said: “I am incredibly heartbroken that Jasmina has passed away. She was such a brave and special child. She showed more strength and spirit than many adults I have met. I feel blessed that I was able to have her in my life, and know that through her example, she has saved many lives. She was truly an angel on Earth.”

Odom, meanwhile, took to his Twitter page to say: “I’m very sad to hear that my little friend, Jasmina, lost her battle with leukaemia. My prayers are with her family.”

The little girl had been given a bone marrow transplant in a bid to boost her immunity through blood cell production after a donor had been found in a nationwide search. She was diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease, NK leukaemia. She died at NYU Langone Medical Center after developing pneumonia in both lungs.

Prospective donors to her cause can visit DKMSAmericas.org or OneForJasmina.com.

Ryan Tedder Talks Leona Lewis

OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder has been responsible for a lot of hits these days but for some unknown reason, the single he co-wrote for Leona Lewis called ‘Happy’ never broke in America. The singer says that he knows why it didn’t perform as well in the US saying “In the US, unless you’re Justin Timberlake or Beyoncé, you cannot put out a song and not be in the country when it comes out. Leona was gone for six weeks when ‘Happy’ came out because she was promoting the record in other countries - it wasn’t her fault; she just couldn’t be two places in once. I had radio stations telling me that they thought ‘Happy’ was the single biggest ballad they’d come across in ten years, but that if Leona didn’t come over here and promote it, it was going to fall. On top of that, America’s consumed with Lady GaGa and dance music right now, so it’s not the best time for ballads anyway. When everything on the radio is blasting out at 120 bpm, a song like ‘Happy’ almost sounds out-of-place.” He has a point.

Elton John to play with Lady Gaga at the Grammys?

SPL136785_002

Elton John is rumoured to be teaming up with Lady Gaga at this weekend’s Grammys.

The Rocket Man star stunned audiences when he performed with Eminem nine years ago.

And sources say he is planning to do the same on Sunday when he takes to the stage with the Poker Face singer.

Sir Elton, 62, had no comment when asked about the collaboration.

But Gaga is also set to play at a February AIDS benefit in New York where he will be honoured.

The Grammys take place in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

It follows reports that Michael Jackson’s children may perform in a tribute to their famous dad, who died last June at the age of 50.

Axl Rose Still Bitter at Slash

Axl Rose’s diva attitude has got to be the saddest I’ve ever heard of. The Guns N Roses lead singer has reportedly banned fans from wearing any Slash merchandise at all of the band’s shows. Fans in Canada were actually asked by security to remove Slash-inspired top hats and turn their Slash shirts inside out when they went into the GNR concert last week or they would have ended up getting denied entrance. A couple of fans stood up to Axl’s demands and simply headed home but most complied so they could catch some of the band’s classic music – because we all know that no one really likes the new ones.

Britney Spears Auctions Dress for Haiti

While in court this past Friday for a bit of a follow up on her life, Britney Spears was granted the right to auction off her 2008 VMAs dress. The proceeds of the sale will then go to the relief efforts in Haiti. The pop singer picked up three awards while wearing the beautiful fringed Versace dress. Maybe it could bring good luck to the top bidder too – or it could just be a great addition to some sort of collection. But it’s for a good cause, even if you don’t like Britney, I’m sure you can put in your own effort to help the victims of the earthquake.

The Killers Cancel Asian Tour

The Killers have suddenly cancelled their tour dates in Asia due to unforeseen circumstances. The band released the following statement on their website, saying “The Killers have been forced to cancel their appearances in Singapore, Beijing, Hong Kong, Manila, Tokyo and Seoul due to unforeseen circumstances. The band deeply apologizes to their fans and hope to reschedule their shows in these cities soon. At this time the band’s Australian appearances remain scheduled as planned.” I wonder what happened. That’s a full regional tour that just went down the drain. Is someone sick? Were there any threats made that got them running scared?

Gardener to Michael Jackson files suit against estate

michael-jackson-blue

A former landscape designer to Michael Jackson has sued his estate for alleged unpaid work.

Jose T. Mareque, who worked at the Hollywood house at 100 Carolwood Drive where Jackson died, provided invoices in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles that claimed a December, 2008 amount owing of $4,722.01. Mareque claimed Jackson’s staff sent him a cheque for $10,000 of a total $14,722.01 owing.

Mareque’s attached invoices include pricey and fancy floristry. Jackson’s taste ran to poinsettias, orchids, evergreen trees, large white hydrangeas, cyclamen plants, berries and roses. Mareque provided indoor plant design as well as outdoor landscaping.
