Ever wanted to own a guitar played by Jerry Garcia? Now is your chance. Tuesday items were auctioned off to the tune of more than $1.1 million dollars. That’s a lot of guitar picks. The psychedelic rock band started in the mid-1960’s, sweeping San Francisco by storm, and eventually the country. I guess that is why people were paying thousands of dollar’s for memorabilia from the band. “Overall it was a very good sale,” said Margaret Barrett, director of the entertainment memorabilia department at Bonhams and Butterfields. “I think the bidders were excited.”
I’m not a collector, so I can’t really say, but $20,000 for a worn out guitar strap sounds a bit crazy to me. Even worse is the guitar that sold for over $300,000. Just buy a new one, it will play better. I suppose I don’t have the respect I should for such a legendary band, but really, I don’t care.
