Posted in Amy Winehouse, Hit Song, Music Festivals on the June 30, 2008

Amy Winehouse made Pete Doherty look angelic last night after punching a fan, spitting chewing gum into the crowd and calling Kanye West a c*** on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.
Her obnoxious behaviour tainted what should have been a magical comeback set.
The question on everybody’s lips was whether or not she would turn up sober and it was admittedly hard to tell if she was intoxicated, as her stage persona is to play up to her rebellion. But coming onstage with a beaming smile suggested she was over the moon to be in the spotlight again after her hospital spell last week.
The songstress started with promise, looking radiant in a blue cocktail dress which squeezed her boobs into an impressive cleavage and detracted attention from her super slim limbs.
She sang her heart out during classic tracks Tears Dry On Their Own, Wake Up Alone and Back To Black.
Amy also giggled about her wardrobe choice, saying: “It took three women to get me into this dress. Girls, isn’t it funny how it takes so long to get ready but no time to get undressed. What’s that all about?”
But things turned sour when she spoke about hubby Blake coming out of jail and fans booed.
Amy defended him, saying: “Don’t boo. I’ll find your phone and ring your mum and tell them about your bad manners. Manners cost you nothing.”
She then rambled on about never having loved a white man before, adding: “When Blake came along he bashed me over the head with a cricket bat. Not literally.”
The performance became more about her declarations of love than entertaining her supporters. Before launching into Hey Little Rich Girl, the precocious star went on a tirade about Jay-Z.
She ordered the crowd to welcome him and told everyone to be grateful they weren’t getting Kanye West as he is a “c***”.
Amy then played up to the cameras during finale track Rehab, jumping off stage, stumbling around and lapping up the attention from adoring fans. But the final straw came when the troubled star shockingly punched an audience member.
Glasto boss MICHAEL EAVIS defended Amy saying: “The man deserved it. He grabbed Amy’s breasts as she went past him.â€
However another fan in the front row said it was actually a girl called Claire that was hit and she only tried to give the singer a high five.

The Queen of Pop sells out but she does it in the best way possible. Madonna has reportedly sold 1 million tickets for her upcoming tour. It shows that she’s still got it and why she’s playing stadiums. To date, Madonna has sold out her shows in Mexico City, Paris, Lisbon, New York, Zurich, Boston, Chicago, Denver, East Rutherford, Oakland, Las Vegas, Houston, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Sources are also saying that Madonna is likely going to extend her tour to do more shows in Latin America. The people obviously want Madonna so it shouldn’t be any surprise if her tour does get extended.

If she’s not careful, she may be out of a contract soon. Lil Mama recently spoke to the press about why her record label sucks saying “My fan base is out of this world and the youth really look up to me and I know for a fact my album wasn’t promoted correctly because people would come up to me like, ‘Oh your album is out?’ Or, ‘This is the second one? It’s really disturbing to know that I signed with a company that didn’t promote my record properly. Highly disturbing.†Honey, the biggest thing I’ve heard from you is your remix of Avril’s song. And that’s not really a good thing to be associated with.

Kanye West has just posted a long rant about his performance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival which had fans angrily throwing stuff on stage after he went on really late. He says “I am sick of negative people who just sit around trying 2 plot my downfall… Why???? I understand if people don’t like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much, But this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I’ve ever had in my life. This is the most offended I’ve ever been… this is the maddest I ever will be. I’m typing so fucking hard I might break my fucking Mac book Air!!!!!!!! Call me any name you want…. arrogant, conceited, narcissistic, racist, metro whatever you can think of…. BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN’T GIVE MY ALL!†And I’m going to stop at that because all the caps are dangerous to anyone’s eyes. After that last line, everything was written in caps. He’s mad people.

The MTV Video Music Awards are usually held in New York City. They changed it up last year when they held it in Las Vegas and this year, they’re going to Hollywood. The ceremony, which will mark its 25th anniversary, will air on September 7. They will be presenting awards from sound stages, city streets and even rooftops. President of MTV Networks Music Group, Van Toffler said in a statement “With Paramount Pictures as the ideal setting, the glamour and musical heritage of L.A. are sure to be catalysts for creating explosive pop culture moments that the VMAs are known for.â€

Amy Winehouse may be in a fragile state but that’s not going to stop her from playing Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday Concert on Friday as well as attending Glastonbury. The British media is reporting that Wino will go on stage with an ambulance crew on standby at the gigs. I hope this is not true. While it’s admirable to not let your supporters down, she should really focus on her health first. Concert organizers are even looking to outfit her backstage area like a private hospital suite complete with massage table and paramedics. If you ask me, she should have just stayed in the hospital where she can get proper care.

Rihanna was on The Today Show in New York City’s Rockefeller Center on Friday. She was there to perform her songs ‘Umbrella’, ‘Please Don’t Stop the Music’ and ‘Take A Bow’. In between songs, she also talked about being the official ambassador for her home country of Barbados. The 20-year old singer says “I am the official ambassador for cultural youth, which is perfect for me because I love dealing with young people. Barbados will always be home. They’re very, very supportive. They’re my backbone. It’s where I started. I couldn’t ask for a better place to grow up in.â€

Lil Wayne may be celebrating having a huge #1 album but the good comes with the bad. The rapper has just been slapped with another lawsuit. This time, it’s for failing to pay for work done on his custom Bentley way back in 2005. The suit was filed back in December 2007 when LeMarck deAndre failed to receive payment for modifying Dwayne Carter Jr.’s Bentley. Now, deAndre is filing another suit for $123,800 in damages. Why? Shouldn’t he just have sued for whatever money he was owed? If you ask me, it looks like someone’s just looking to drain Lil Wayne’s cash flow.

A dateless Rihanna, or at least looking dateless, sizzled on the red carpet at the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards which was held at the Chum/City Building on Sunday in Toronto, Canada. The 20-year old R&B singer was awarded the first trophy of the night, Best International Video for her single ‘Don’t Stop the Music’. The Barbadian babe also won an MMVA for the MuchMusic.com Most Watched Video award for her smash hit ‘Umbrella’. Rihanna won both awards that she was nominated for. Congratulations! Now where exactly was your boyfriend when you were off cleaning house at awards shows? Where’s the support?

In another crazy lawsuit, a guy wants $88 million out of Jay-Z for his rap – not for a lyric he copied or a sample he stole but for stealing the ultra-exclusive technique of rapping in a low whisper. What the heck? I wish I was kidding. Mitchell Rose, a boxer/lawyer/rapper, has filed suit alleging that he created the technique of whisper rapping. Rose says that Jay-Z adopted the technique without properly crediting him so now he wants to get paid. If his name is familiar to you, he’s the same Mitchell Rose who once wrote a book called ‘Mike Tyson Tried to Kill My Daddy’. Go figure.

Have you ever heard of the girl group Wild Orchid? If your answer is no, join the club. But if looking at the picture of the group sparks a bit of interest in you, there’s good reason. If the girl in the middle looks familiar, you might want to consider giving the idea in your head the name of Fergie. Her former record label is releasing a ‘Best Of’ for her former group. Why? I doubt they even had one hit. I don’t even know them. Obviously, her old record label is looking to cash in on the fact that Fergie’s really famous now and her earlier works could mean money for them.

Amy Winehouse has “gone too far,†according to The Zutons, whose song Valerie was turned into a hit by the troubled singer.
Frontman Dave McCabe is concerned about the diva’s descent into drug addiction, but hopes she can turn her life around.
Dave said: “I hope Amy sorts it out. But does she wanna sort it out? Because the way she’s being treated now, I think it may have gone too far. She’s like, ‘You know, I can’t even be bothered dealing with all this situation’. She might just like to be a husky singer in a shady club, which could be good as well. I hope she sorts it out. I hope she becomes happy, and if she’s happy now then fair enough.â€

Reports are saying that Coldplay has been forced to postpone the start of their North American tour by 2 weeks due to some so-called production delays. The tour will now kick off in LA on July 14th. The band’s tour was supposed to wrap up in Chicago on August 4th but will instead come to an end that same day in Boston. Tickets for the thrown out dates will be valid for the new ones and refunds are also available at points of purchase. There’s an updated itinerary posted on Coldplay’s website. The band’s previously announced free shows in London on June 16, Barcelona on June 17 and New York on June 23 will go on as planned.

Newton Faulkner, goes into summer 2008 with the release of his latest single ‘Gone in the Morning’ on July 7th through Ugly Truth Records.
A massive live favorite ‘Gone in the Morning’ is the perfect summer anthem-in-waiting, ideal for beach, picnic or garden with its infectious chorus, supersharp vocals and rolling bassline.
‘Gone in the Morning’ is the latest track to be taken from Newton’s spectacularly successful Number One & Double Platinum debut album, ‘Hand Built By Robots’, which has so far sold 700,000 copies in the UK alone.
23 year old Newton has also started spreading the word globally with his first North American and European live dates - a highlight being an especially exciting performance that took place in a hot air balloon high over the Swiss Alps. Meanwhile his recent US sell-out shows have been watched by none other than Kings of Leon (in Nashville) and Scarlett Johansson (NYC).
After a series of successful festival shows in 2007, Newton comes back to play bigger stages at several key UK festivals this summer including Glastonbury (Other and Acoustic stages), Isle of Wight Festival, T in the Park and V 2008. He also plays various international festivals including Oxygen in Ireland and Lollapalooza & Bonnaroo in the US.
A genuine British grass roots success story, Newton is a true DIY phenomenon with Myspace plays now approaching an amazing 2.5 million.

Rapper Numskull’s reps have released a statement denying the twelve felony counts charged against him. In the statement, after Numskull denied all the allegations, he says that he’s a family-oriented man who is innocent until proven guilty. And since he was going public with something anyway, he also took the time to remind everyone that they should “stay tuned for the Luniz ‘Lost Tapes’ album†and that “people have not heard the last of Numskull.†I wish it was the last time I heard of him. Who the heck plugs an album in the middle of legal woes? Even R Kelly doesn’t do that and he’s a bigger star than Numskull.

The king of the name change is at it again as he is seemingly not yet satisfied with changing his name for the nth time. Sean John Combs doesn’t have a new name for us though. He has resorted to being old school – or maybe unoriginal is more like it. The man we more recently know as Diddy is bringing Puff Daddy back. On his MySpace page, the entertainment mogul wrote “This is your boy Puff Daddy!!! Yes Puffy Daddy, the King of the Remix is back with O’Neal Mcknight and Jermaine Dupri on the ‘Check Your Coat Remix’!!! Visit my myspace page to listen to it NOW.†On the song, he raps “They call me Puff Daddy…. he’s back. Yeah you heard me right. I said Puff Daddy. I’m about to back on that Puff Daddy shit.â€

The ex-stepfather of Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams is one big douche bag. I guess he’s bitter over missing the money ship that his former stepdaughter is now bringing in so he’s trying to get even just a piece of it by selling some of her personal items on eBay. Hayley recently wrote in her blog about it saying “i saw that post someone made about the “handwritten book” on ebay. yes, it’s mine… i’m actually posting about the seller of this item. it happens to be my ex-stepfather. who is… well… insane, hence the reason he is my EX-stepfather… don’t buy it. i’m gonna buy it. hahaha.†There’s some bitterness on her part too as she not so subtly gave out his number and said for us to give him hell.

Rapper TI may be convicted on gun possession charges but that’s not stopping him from getting jobs, post-jail sentencing. First, there were reports on the MTV reality show that will follow him on his 1000 hours of community service before heading to prison. Now, according to reports, he has a 3-picture deal with Screen Gems. The partnership will launch the crime drama ‘Bone Deep’ which will co-star Matt Dillon. The film is about a group of bank robbers who pull off a daring high-risk heist and are dragged into one last job by a freshly paroled pal. I’m placing all my chips in that TI will play the freshly paroled character. He’s bound to have some experience to pull from.

According to the British media, BBC has offered girl group Girls Aloud their very own 8 part chat show which is said to be called ‘An Audience with Girls Aloud’. The deal they made is reportedly worth $1 million. A source revealed that “The girls are yet to sign, but they have all agreed to it. They would each be paid £20,000 ($40,000) per show. The band is going strong and they all want to commit to it 100 per cent.†BBC has been making singers into talk show hosts recently. Let’s just hope that the girls don’t turn out like Lily Allen. But then again, they’re much more likable than Lily anyway.
