Michael Jackson is whipping up a storm in the US state of Iowa over whether or not to immortalise him in butter.
The annual butter sculpture is an Iowa State Fair staple but locals are divided over whether or not to give Jackson the dairy treatment so now the matter will now be put to a local vote.
Tempers reportedly flared after the butter memorial sculpture plan was raised, leading organisers to tone down their plan.
In an amended press release, they revealed they have opted for a ’small side portion’ of the late pop star that will go with a commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s walk on the moon, even though they had initially planned for a bigger sculpture.
But some fairgoers were still not happy and hundreds of complaints followed so it was decided the matter should go to a vote.
“People don’t believe that he’s representative of Iowa and a lot of fairgoers are under the impression that we typically sculpt only Iowans,” said fair marketing director Lori Chappell.
Iowa State Fair CEO Gary Slater said a one-week online poll will be conducted at www.iowastatefair.org.
The poll’s final results will be released Friday, July 17. The fair is being held from August 13 to 23 near Des Moines.
Slater added: “The ongoing discussion has created a lot of, well, ‘churn’ …. Since everyone has an opinion about the sculpture, we’ve decided to put it to a vote and let fairgoers decide.”

Michael Jackson thought his face was a work of art, his doctor has revealed.
Dr Arnie Klein told Larry King he worked on the pop icon’s face a number of times but said it was only to restore what other surgeons had already done.
He said: “I think that he believed that his face was a work of art. You want to talk about Andy Warhol’s work of art. And there are women in Paris and elsewhere and men who do works of art. Some of them implant things under their skins through surgeries. He felt he was a piece of art, that his face was a piece of art.”
Klein said that he worked on Jackson after the star had already been through many surgery procedures.
“I stopped him from going to the surgeon because I said, ‘this isn’t working anymore, you have to stop it’,” Klein said. “And what I spent the last part of the year doing is rebuilding a lot of things that I thought were done poorly.”
