Danyl Johnson lost out on the weekend’s X Factor to Olly Murs, Stacey Solomon and Joe McElderry.
Danyl, who was Simon Cowell’s contestant, has had a soap opera ride on the show, after claims he was a diva and bearing the brunt of a gaffe judge Dannii Minogue made about his sexuality.
But he gracefully accepted his defeat and hugged Solomon who goes on to the next final.
He said: “I might have gone out in the semi-final but I’ve gone out to some of the best people I’ve ever met.”
Cowell, meanwhile, who had a run-in with Danyl over the choice of song, said he was “genuinely upset” about the outcome.
He said on the show: “There is nothing more I could have done. It’s just one of those things. He has gone out on a high.”
Danyl, who is a teacher, said of his future: “I’m just going to see what happens. I’m looking forward to seeing my family and friends and maybe play a couple of gigs.”
Lady GaGa and Janet Jackson performed on The X Factor. GaGa, who is storming up the American charts with her songs, was asked to give advice to the X Factor wanna-bes. She said: “Be yourself. Don’t let anyone ever tell you that you can’t achieve your dreams.”
