Steven Tyler to judge American Idol
Rocker Steven Tyler has signed up to judge American Idol.
The Aerosmith frontman agreed to join the hit show as Simon Cowell’s replacement, according to the New York Daily News.
“Steven is doing American Idol. The ink is dry on that,” Tyler’s bandmate Tom Hamilton told The Star-Ledger of Newark newspaper.
Aerosmiths Steven Tyler in talks with American Idol execs
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has revealed that he has been approached about a judging role on American Idol, but that it’s “a work in progress”.
Tyler, 62, is rumoured to be one of the new judges on the US talent show, alongside singer Jennifer Lopez, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Asked about the reports on a US radio show, Tyler confirmed that executives on the Fox show have contacted him.
He said on Kidd Kraddick’s radio show: “Well, you know, this beautiful girl from Fox came up to me and made an offer.”
He added: “It’s a work in progress, it’s just one of those things. They mentioned it and I listened and… we’re on tour, so I’ve got to give it some time.
Asked what kind of judge he would be like if he were to take the job, he said: “I would be honest to the ones that think they have it, and I would be truthful and sensitive to those who haven’t.”

Steven Tyler on being a ‘dancing fool’
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has declared that the group has “never been better, I’m singing better”, ahead of their American tour.
The band, who are currently playing shows in Europe, are set to start their US tour later this month in Oakland, California.
The rockers had to cancel their summer tour in 2009 after Tyler fell off the stage during a performance.
Speaking about his on-stage style in an interview with the Associated Press, the 62-year-old described himself as “a dancing fool out there”.
“I’m my own worst enemy when it comes to risk-taking, but I do what I do.
“I am [more careful] when it’s raining. I don’t do anything … I’m real careful when it comes to that. But ordinarily, I’ve gotten real strong jumping over all the pedals my guitar players have out there in the middle of the stage and the monitor wedges. It’s like a little hurdle out there for me.”
The singer described life in the legendary rock band as “being … like living on the tail of a comet”.
“I’ve had a lot of injuries over the last couple of the years.”
He added: “There will never be another band like Aerosmith, and I just don’t want to do anything to hurt that. I love the band so much.”
The singer says he plans on entertaining crowds into his 80s, declaring: “I’ll be doing this 20 years from now. I’ll be doing this as long as sound comes out of my mouth.”

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler sings own hit in karaoke bar

Rocker Steven Tyler has been spotted for the first time since leaving rehab – in a karaoke bar.
The Aerosmith frontman reportedly checked into rehab in December, seeking treatment for dependency on prescription drugs after admitting he had become addicted to pills following years of injuries sustained on stage.
But since then, he had not been seen until he resurfaced at the Tilted Kilt pub in Palm Springs, California.
A Tilted Kilt DJ said he was accompanied by a management team, including a publicist who said Tyler wasn’t going to sing.
But after listening to two other people get booed off stage after singing the Aerosmith classic I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing, Tyler grabbed the microphone.
He then sang his 1998 hit, much to the delight of the crowd.
DJ Mike May revealed: “Two amateur singers told Tyler they were going to perform a version of I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing that was going to totally suck.
“But Tyler gave them his blessing but when their prediction proved true, the crowd started booing them off the stage, although he was very gracious and very kind.
a
“I began singing along to try to save the show when all of a sudden, near the end of the song Tyler grabbed the mic and started singing.
“The whole frickin’ bar surrounded him and he just started singing the whole thing. I announced Tyler to the stunned crowd and said: ‘Karaoke will never get better then that’.
“It was like one of those moments. It was a club DJ’s dream come true.”
Aerosmith bandmates concerned for Steven Tyler’s health
The dust on the shake-up of Aerosmith has finally settled, with Steven Tyler deciding to take a two-year break from the band.
His bandmates spoke out on their concerns for his health. Drummer Joey Kramer indicated Tyler’s health problems went beyond a fracture he suffered earlier this year. He said: “I think that he needs help and that attention needs to be put to his health.”
Kramer would not confirm recent reports about Tyler’s lifestyle, but said he believed the frontman was isolating himself: “He’s got some bad influences in his life right now and he’s making poor choices.”
Guitarist Brad Whitford was blunter: “His behaviour is spinning out of control.”
Tyler was seen out on Monday night at The Pump Energy Food in New York City, where he ordered a fresh-squeezed juice made of carrots, beets and ginger. The next night he was at a John Mayer concert with his girlfriend, Erin Brady. A rep for Tyler says: “He’s concentrating on his book right now while his shoulder heals.”
Kramer, Whitford and bandmates Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton are considering looking for a new lead singer, People reports.
Drama in Aerosmith Land
It seems that Aerosmith’s recording and touring break aren’t just because of lead singer Steven Tyler’s injuries from a recent stage accident. His ego can also be blamed. According to the band’s guitarist Joe Perry, Steven has not spoken to the rest of the band since the accident in August. If he does have to communicate, he does it through his new management team. Steven and Joe haven’t even written a song together for the past 10 years! For a band that’s been together for over 40 years, that’s just cold. Joe is staying optimistic that the band will be back on its feet though saying “I think we need more time to get everybody healthy and the whole thing, and see if Steven wants to be part of the band again.”
Aerosmith ‘not breaking up’, says guitarist Joe Perry

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has denied rumours the band are on the verge of breaking up.
The veteran American rock band were reportedly struggling with infighting among its members.
Perry told his Twitter followers: “Aero is not breaking up!”
He added that the band were merely on hiatus until singer Stephen Tyler makes a full recovery from a fall which left him with a broken shoulder.

It’s All in the Family

The family that rocks together stays together. In the case of the Tyler family, that most definitely holds true.
Liv Tyler took her 2 ½ old son Milo on stage with her to watch her 59-year old father Steven Tyler, the lead singer of the rock band Aerosmith, do his thing during a concert at the Molson Amphitheater on Monday in Toronto Canada. To make sure that Milo doesn’t hurt himself with all the noise, he wore protective noise-canceling headphones.
Milo is definitely growing up on rock because his dad, Royston Langdon, also happens to be a rock musician. Royston is the lead singer and bass player for the band Arckid.
