Posted in Album Release, Britney Spears on the October 6, 2008

A preview of Britney Spears’ first single ‘Womanizer’ got leaked via Nashville, Tennessee’s 107.5 The River. The song is off the recovering starlet’s much-anticipated sixth studio album ‘Circus’ which will officially drop in stores on December 2. There were other song leaks that have been making waves over the internet. I guess those were just buzz makers to get people interested. I haven’t heard the song yet, leak or the real thing, but I’m hoping that it’s good. Britney needs a lot of good things to happen to her this year. Let’s just call it a reward for all the progress that she’s made.

Posted in Album Release, Solange on the September 23, 2008

Solange Knowles celebrated the release of her new album at Prive Nightclub inside Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada recently. The 22-year old singer managed to debut at number 9 on the charts with her second album ‘Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams’. The singer kicked off her album release week with a performance on ‘Late Night with David Letterman’ and an appearance on BET’s 106 & Park which both aired on the last week of August. If Solange can hold on to any spot on the chart, it’s likely that she and her sister Beyonce will be seeing each other as the elder Knowles will be releasing her untitled third solo album in the United States on November 18.
Posted in Album Release, Eminem, Rapper on the July 20, 2008

Don’t call it a comeback just yet. Reports are saying that Eminem is about to begin working on his first new album since 2004. A protégé of Slim Shady’s, Bishop Lamont, says that Em is working on the project and that he’s apparently “got a lot to get off his chest”. He says that Em was “emotionally devastated” after his rapper friend Proof was killed in 2006. Lamont says “He went through what he had to go through, and now he’s been able to take all the pain and stress and put it out in his music.” There’s no news yet on when the album will be released. After all this time that he’s been gone, I can definitely wait a couple more decades.
Posted in Album Release, Numskull on the June 12, 2008
Rapper Numskull’s reps have released a statement denying the twelve felony counts charged against him. In the statement, after Numskull denied all the allegations, he says that he’s a family-oriented man who is innocent until proven guilty. And since he was going public with something anyway, he also took the time to remind everyone that they should “stay tuned for the Luniz ‘Lost Tapes’ album†and that “people have not heard the last of Numskull.†I wish it was the last time I heard of him. Who the heck plugs an album in the middle of legal woes? Even R Kelly doesn’t do that and he’s a bigger star than Numskull.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Alicia Keys was a rock star instead of an R&B/Soul singer? If you have, you can stop thinking it because it just might happen. The 27-year old singer recently revealed to Rolling Stone magazine that she’s interested in collaborating with The White Stripes. She said “I just think we could do something really interesting that mixes rock and soul together, the blues and emotion, and it could be really touching.†Alicia also mentions wanting to work with Linkin Park, Coldplay and Queens of the Stone Age. My mind is really going right now.
Posted in Album Release, Nas, Rap Music, Rapper on the May 21, 2008
I’m not sure if anyone cares at this point but Nas is still insisting that the real title of his disc is still the N word even though his label says that they’re not calling it that anymore. According to EW.com, Def Jam says that the rapper’s latest record will now be called ‘Nas’. Contrary to reports though, Def Jam exec LA Reid said that Nas could call it whatever he wanted. Maybe that’s why he’s still insisting on the original title. In my opinion, they should just consider scrapping the album altogether, especially after all of this nonsense. Releasing it now will just be anti-climactic.

Despite the massive amount of media attention that she received after her surprise wedding to Nick Cannon last week, Mariah’s new single ‘Bye Bye’ has dropped from #22 to #41 on this week’s Soundscan singles chart in America. People may be interested in her wedding but it seems like no one gives a crap about her single. It sucks for her. But congratulations goes out to Madonna whose single ‘4 Minutes’ is at #3 this week with her second single ‘Give It 2 Me’ debuting at #21. I wonder if anything good will happen to Mariah’s career if she suddenly announces that she was pregnant.

The British have made up their mind and the numbers definitely show that they prefer their adopted child Madonna over Mariah Carey. The chart results have recently been announced and the Queen of Pop’s new album ‘Hard Candy’ has topped the UK charts by coming in at the #1 spot. Mariah’s ‘E=MC2’ only managed to debut at #3 on the album charts. Additionally, Madonna’s ‘4 Minutes (To Save the World)’ is at #1 for a 3rd week on the UK singles chart. She doesn’t stop there as ‘Hard Candy’ also takes the top spot in more than 25 countries as more numbers roll in. Congratulations!

Posted in Album Release, High School Musical, New Single, Singers, Song, Vanessa Hudgens on the April 15, 2008
Vanessa Hudgens recently premiered her new single ‘Sneakernight’ which comes off of her forthcoming sophomore album over at Radio Disney. The 19-year old ‘High School Musical’ star did not only play her new single, she also hosted the ‘Planet Premiere’ radio show last Friday. The song is pretty much a teenage girl party anthem which could have the potential of being a hit – a teeny bopper hit, but a hit nonetheless. It’s a pretty good pop song. I wonder if and when she comes out with a video for this, that her boyfriend Zac Efron will make a cameo. He was in her debut video.

According to Madonna’s publicist Liz Rosenberg, the Queen of Pop and her hubby Guy Ritchie are still going strong. Liz says “I am delighted to confirm that Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ritchie remain happily married. Though they were in different countries recently — Madonna in the U.S. doing promotion for her upcoming album, ‘Hard Candy’, and Guy finishing up post production on his new film ‘RocknRolla’ as well as completing a Nike commercial and working on several scripts in England, the family are joyfully back together at home in London.” We’ll believe it when we see it. You can never base everything on what people say these days.
Posted in Album Release, Music Review, New LP, New Single, Saturday Night Live, Song on the March 19, 2008

Mariah Carey performed a two-song set during this past Saturday’s edition of Saturday Night Live. The 38-year old diva performed songs from her latest album ‘E=MC²’ which means ‘Emancipation equals Mariah Carey to the second power’. She sang her first single off the album ‘Touch My Body’ and a new song called ‘Migrate’. I thought ‘Touch My Body’ was a nice song but I’m really not feeling ‘Migrate’. It’s just a basic hip hop song that really did nothing for Mariah. It was so basic that even her back up dancers got basic. They needed to jazz up their outfits that were nothing more than a snore.

And pisses off execs at NBC in the process.
Sources say Mariah Carey, her manager Benny Medina, and reps at Def Jam are on the NBC bad list. Seems they promised that Mariah would do an appearance and performance on Today to promote her new album E=MC2. Instead, she’s going to be on ABCs Good Morning America, a rival show.
No word yet on how NBC will retaliate!
Posted in Album Release, Hit Song, Madonna, New LP, New Single, News, Song, Tracks Listing on the March 3, 2008

The track listing for Madonna’s new album has been unveiled and it is as follows:
1) Candy Store
2) 4 Minutes To Save The World
3) Give it 2 Me
4) Heartbeat
5) Miles Away
6) She’s Not Me
7) Incredible
Beat Goes On
9) Dance Tonight
10) Spanish Lesson
11) Devil
12) Voices
‘Spanish Lessons’? Pray that it’s not ‘La Isla Bonita’ part 2. And no, that’s not the actual cover of her album. With Madonna going crazy on magazine covers and giving racy pictures, I’m sure her album cover will be just as, if not more, racy than ever.
