Jay-Z’s new album, ‘The Blueprint 3’, hit the number one spot on the Billboard 200 charts this past week by selling over 476,000 copies. That’s not unusual for the rapper though considering that his new album makes it his 11th album to hit the top of the mountain. Mind you, that also makes him the most successful solo artist since Elvis Presley! It’s a good thing that he didn’t follow through with his retirement. I don’t think many people can accomplish that kind of feat and be able to say that they are as good, or probably better, than Elvis. And if Jay-Z wants to be the best of all time, he just needs 8 more number ones to tie with The Beatles.

Sir Paul McCartney has spoken out about his relationship with John Lennon and denied reports that they didn’t get on.
Sir Paul, 66, has revealed the truth about his friendship with his Beatles bandmate, who was shot dead outside his home in 1980.
The singer denied claims that John had complained in interviews that he had ruined songs by not committing enough creative energy to them.
Sir Paul said: “Oh, he was on drugs, wasn’t he? This is the trouble with history, with journalism. John said so much c**p that he later said he hadn’t meant. It’s bulls**t.”
He also told the UK’s Radio Times magazine: “The image of John is seriously flawed because he was not the hard, mad man that people think he was. He was a very soft-centred guy and we had a lot more in common than people think.
“Whatever bad things John said about me, he would also slip his glasses down to the end of his nose and say, ‘I love you’. That’s really what I hold on to. That’s what I believe. The rest is showing off.”

The lawyer for Michael Jackson’s mother filed documents in court recently, sounding the alarm that people might try to loot the late singer’s estate. Katherine’s attorney claims that there are numerous bank accounts belonging to the King of Pop that are being controlled by third parties. He says that these accounts need to be controlled so third parties don’t misspend the money. The lawyer also claims that there is some worry about Michael’s stake in the Sony-ATV Music Publishing Catalog, which includes Beatles’ works, that he says is the most important asset in the estate. Since no one is now representing the late singer’s interests, the lawyer wants Katherine to be in charge.

The front man from Oasis recently met the widow of his idol in life, John Lennon. Apparently, their meeting wasn’t much of a conversational event as the two didn’t do much talking, as Yoko Ono relates: “Our meeting was really very interesting. We didn’t chat so much though. Instead we were just looking out of the window, because my apartment has beautiful views of the park.” Right, and Liam Gallagher really does strike you as the kind of man who would spend such moments in the most revered of silence. But hey, maybe he’s a sort of closet melancholic when it comes to meeting important people, who knows. Or maybe Yoko Ono just has that effect on people… they say some witches can control minds too.

The remaining American Idol hopefuls took on classic rock this week. Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen and Danny Gokey took the stage without doing dress rehearsals this week due to an accident that happened as they were setting up the stage. It seemed to make no difference though. Adam kicked off the show with Led Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lot of Love’. Talk about being a tough act to follow. Allison sang next with Janis Joplin’s ‘Cry Baby’. It was a good vocal but too much like the original. Kris sang The Beatles’ ‘Come Together’. His performance showed that he was certainly not a rocker but his arrangement suited his voice well. Danny performed Aerosmith’s ‘Dream On’. It’s a big song to take on and Danny failed to deliver. I still think he’ll be safe though.
