John Lennon’s Toilet Auctioned Off

A toilet that once belonged to the late John Lennon has been auctioned off in Liverpool for the price of $14,700. The Beatles singer reportedly owned the toilet from 1969-1971 before he gave it to builder and told him to put flowers in it or something. It then sat in a shed for 40 years before some crazy person bought it last weekend. What is up with these people? Do they think that shedding crazy amounts of money for these things would somehow make their lives better? Oh well, whatever floats their boat. If I had that kind of money, I’d go on a trip to be happy.

Paul McCartney gets emotional thinking about Beatles members

Beatles star Paul McCartney said he still gets emotional thinking about the band’s former members.

The 67-year-old is one of two surviving members of the band along with Ringo Starr, 69. Their two other bandmates have since passed away – John Lennon was killed 30 years ago and George Harrison died nine years ago.

Sir Paul said to UK newspaper Daily Record: “John and George were real mates. I have a huge fondness for them. They were both part of my life and who I am. There are little reminders of them all the time.

“Today, somebody brought me a new book by 1960s photographer Duffy and I saw a picture of John in it.

“Now, if I write a song, I’m always cross-checking in my mind: ‘Would John have let me write that line or is it just too soppy?’ Sometimes, I just think: ‘Too bad, it’s my song.’ but I’m always cross-checking with him.”

Taylor Momsen Talks Music Career

Wannabe hardcore rock star/teen actress Taylor Momsen gave an interview about her band The Pretty Reckless and her musical aspirations. When asked about their upcoming album, she said “It’s coming out this summer. We wrote it as a record, so every song is part of a bigger thing. I don’t know—I just want people to hear it!” Taylor also talked about her biggest influence saying “The Beatles did everything first, and they did it the best.” As for being compared to Courtney Love, she said “I don’t wanna be Courtney Love—I wanna be Kurt Cobain. He’s brilliant and his songs are genius. The Hole records are great. Everyone always compares me to Courtney Love because they think we like dress the same and we both have blond hair, wear lipstick and dresses. But I’m sorry, don’t a lot of girls dress like that? I look at Nirvana. I don’t look at Hole.”

Paul McCartney to re-release solo music and Wings songs

SPL89816_005

Sir Paul McCartney is to re-release his back catalogue of solo music and Wings tracks after agreeing a new deal.

The former Beatles star has signed the deal with independent music company Concord Music Group, which will see his post-Beatles albums re-released in physical as well as digital forms.

Sir Paul said: “I’m always looking for new ways and opportunities to get my music to people.”

Concord said that Band on the Run is set to be released in August and bonus material will be included.

EMI had looked after Sir Paul’s post-Beatles material until February, when the singer gained control over everything he released between 1970 and 2006, while EMI kept the rights to Beatles tracks.

American Idol Celebrity Performances

Three successful artists were again lined up for performances on the results show of American Idol as we all saw David Archuleta, Jason Derulo and Rihanna take the stage in between the announcement of the bottom three contestants. The AI alum kicked off the celebrity performances with his rendition of ‘Imagine’ in keeping with the theme of Beatles songs. With his performance, I came even further in conclusion about how crappy the younger singers in competition are this year. Jason Derulo was a real treat and I thought his performance was better than Usher’s and Diddy’s combined. Kara DioGuardi was so proud because he’s her artist and Simon couldn’t agree more about how good he was. That’s why I was kind of disappointed with Rihanna’s time on stage. She was kind of a drag to watch really.

Beatles Mania on American Idol

There is no mentor on this week’s American Idol but Paul McCartney did send a video message for the aspiring singers as Beatles mania has hit the show. Actually, I think the contestants did better on their own rather than when they had a mentor. Aaron Kelly sang ‘Long and Winding Road’. Katie Stevens sang ‘Let It Be’. Andrew Garcia sang ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’. Michael Lynche sang ‘Eleanor Rigby’. Crystal Bowersox sang ‘Come Together’. Tim Urban sang ‘All My Loving’. Casey James sang ‘Jealous Guy’. Siobhan Magnus sang ‘Across the Universe’. And finally, Lee DeWyze sang ‘Hey Jude’. By the way, did anyone else think that it was wild that there was a bag pipe and that Aussie instrument on the show?

Ke$ha Covers Billboard

Ke$ha is on the February 27 cover of Billboard magazine. The trashy pop singer has the longest running number 1 debut single by a female artist on the Billboard Hot 100 since 1977 as ‘TiK ToK’ holds the spot for a ninth week. During the Grammys, Ke$ha went backstage and ran into Ringo Starr, who congratulated her on her success. The singer spoke about her surprise after the greeting, saying “He congratulated me? Ringo Starr? Congratulations to me? It was more like, ‘Congratulations to you for being a f—ing Beatle.’” I’m kind of glad that she’s still her own trashy self even when she’s in front of major rock stars.

Jay-Z is Better than Elvis Presley

Jay-Z’s new album, ‘The Blueprint 3’, hit the number one spot on the Billboard 200 charts this past week by selling over 476,000 copies. That’s not unusual for the rapper though considering that his new album makes it his 11th album to hit the top of the mountain. Mind you, that also makes him the most successful solo artist since Elvis Presley! It’s a good thing that he didn’t follow through with his retirement. I don’t think many people can accomplish that kind of feat and be able to say that they are as good, or probably better, than Elvis. And if Jay-Z wants to be the best of all time, he just needs 8 more number ones to tie with The Beatles.

Sir Paul McCartney denies reports that he didn’t get on with John Lennon

SPL89816_005

Sir Paul McCartney has spoken out about his relationship with John Lennon and denied reports that they didn’t get on.

Sir Paul, 66, has revealed the truth about his friendship with his Beatles bandmate, who was shot dead outside his home in 1980.

The singer denied claims that John had complained in interviews that he had ruined songs by not committing enough creative energy to them.

Sir Paul said: “Oh, he was on drugs, wasn’t he? This is the trouble with history, with journalism. John said so much c**p that he later said he hadn’t meant. It’s bulls**t.”

He also told the UK’s Radio Times magazine: “The image of John is seriously flawed because he was not the hard, mad man that people think he was. He was a very soft-centred guy and we had a lot more in common than people think.

“Whatever bad things John said about me, he would also slip his glasses down to the end of his nose and say, ‘I love you’. That’s really what I hold on to. That’s what I believe. The rest is showing off.”

Michael Jackson’s Mom Afraid of Looting

The lawyer for Michael Jackson’s mother filed documents in court recently, sounding the alarm that people might try to loot the late singer’s estate. Katherine’s attorney claims that there are numerous bank accounts belonging to the King of Pop that are being controlled by third parties. He says that these accounts need to be controlled so third parties don’t misspend the money. The lawyer also claims that there is some worry about Michael’s stake in the Sony-ATV Music Publishing Catalog, which includes Beatles’ works, that he says is the most important asset in the estate. Since no one is now representing the late singer’s interests, the lawyer wants Katherine to be in charge.

Liam Gallagher’s Yoko Ono meeting:

The front man from Oasis recently met the widow of his idol in life, John Lennon. Apparently, their meeting wasn’t much of a conversational event as the two didn’t do much talking, as Yoko Ono relates: “Our meeting was really very interesting. We didn’t chat so much though. Instead we were just looking out of the window, because my apartment has beautiful views of the park.” Right, and Liam Gallagher really does strike you as the kind of man who would spend such moments in the most revered of silence. But hey, maybe he’s a sort of closet melancholic when it comes to meeting important people, who knows. Or maybe Yoko Ono just has that effect on people… they say some witches can control minds too.

American Idol Top 4 Take on Rock

The remaining American Idol hopefuls took on classic rock this week. Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen and Danny Gokey took the stage without doing dress rehearsals this week due to an accident that happened as they were setting up the stage. It seemed to make no difference though. Adam kicked off the show with Led Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lot of Love’. Talk about being a tough act to follow. Allison sang next with Janis Joplin’s ‘Cry Baby’. It was a good vocal but too much like the original. Kris sang The Beatles’ ‘Come Together’. His performance showed that he was certainly not a rocker but his arrangement suited his voice well. Danny performed Aerosmith’s ‘Dream On’. It’s a big song to take on and Danny failed to deliver. I still think he’ll be safe though.
