Janet Jackson Flash Mob

Flash mobs usually pay homage to musicians who are no longer with us, or at least the ones who aren’t right there. However, the Janet Jackson flash mob that went down last weekend had a very special guest – the singer herself. It wasn’t all a coincidence though. It was actually all to promote her greatest hits album which comes out on Tuesday. It was still pretty cool though. The mob busted out some of her most famous choreography and were also dressed in some of her most recognizable clothes. I bet she was entertained by all of that. I want my own flash mob!

Janet Jackson VMA Tribute for Michael

Janet Jackson and 20 backup dancers have been working very hard to perform a legendary one-time tribute to her brother, the King of Pop Michael Jackson, at MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday. The world’s best choreographers, including the likes of Frank Gatson and Travis Payne, have taken part in the 15-hour dance rehearsals to make the singer’s dream tribute performance a finely tuned reality. According to one dancer involved in the show, there won’t be a dry eye in the house by the time that Janet’s done her thing on stage. I can’t wait to see it. Now that is how you work for a tribute.

Michael Jackson By the Numbers

We all know what Michael Jackson was worth when he died but some people are curious as to what the other members of the family are worth. Paperwork about a possible tour involving the Jackson siblings just gave us the answer to that. The new group, called the Jackson 8, was formed through a New Jersey promoter called AllGood Entertainment and the company is hoping to put the family out on a10-city US tour. The rest of the siblings are having issues with the money though as younger sister and proposed lead singer, Janet Jackson, is making 4 times as much money as the rest of the family. Janet will be paid $4 million while Jermaine, Jackie, Randy, Marlon and Tito will get $1.5 million each. La Toya and Rebbie will be given $500,000 and $250,000 respectively.

Kelly Clarkson Covers Janet Jackson

Kelly Clarkson recently performed a 16-song set at the PC Richard and Son theater in New York City last week. She performed at an event sponsored by Z100 radio station and iHeartRadio. The 27-year old original American Idol champ sang a beautiful rendition of Janet Jackson’s hit song ‘If’. The singer’s set also included a bluesy and soulful tribute to Patsy Cline’s ‘Walkin’ After Midnight’. Kelly’s concert was simply to die for! She always changes up her classic songs and throws in some new ones. The songs were only made better by the great acoustics in the theater. You miss a lot when you miss a Kelly concert.

Janet Jackson’s Dismal Return

Janet Jackson made her so-called triumphant return to Detroit last Tuesday. I’m not sure I can even call it that after performing in an arena only filled to 33% of its capacity. The singer’s trouble Rock Witchu tour hit the Palace at Auburn Hills last week, and according to Billboard, the attendance was at a measly 8,000 people. The Palace’s capacity is at 21,000! This will likely be Janet’s last solo arena tour ever. If she even thinks of heading out on the road again, she’ll either be co-headlining big venues or just be a solo headliner in very small ones.

Janet Jackson has No Label

Janet Jackson is now without a label as she is no longer with Island Def Jam Music Group. She isn’t releasing any info regarding if she was dropped though. The report of the split comes from producer Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins. He confirmed that Janet is now a free agent. He adds “We didn’t get the support from the record company.” He also said that Janet “felt like it wasn’t pushed. I felt like it wasn’t pushed correctly. She just didn’t get her just-do as an artist of that magnitude.” He also talked about her future saying “I could make an album with her, possibly me, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis. Keep it real simple. They focus on what they’re great at, I focus on what I’m great at. We come together and make a classic Janet record.”

Mel B and Janet Jackson duet

Mel B is recording a duet with Janet Jackson for her new album. The Spice Girls star, whose last single ‘Today’ failed to break the Top 40 when it was released in 2005, believes the collaboration will secure her chart success this time round.

She said: “I am doing something with Janet Jackson which should be amazing. I am also going to hook up with Missy Elliott again.”

Mel teamed up with Missy Elliott for her debut solo track ‘I Want You Back’. The 1998 track was her only single to top the charts after she left the Spice Girls. The 33-year-old singer insists she isn’t worried about going it alone again and is convinced she has the best people in the music business working on her third solo LP.

Mel added: “I am not scared of having another try. I am working with the best producers ever. I am now 10 tracks in to my new record.”

The star’s previous albums were ‘Hot’, which was released in 2000 and 2005’s ‘LA State Of Mind’.

Ciara and Janet Jackson Duet

ciara-janet.jpg

Doing remakes of very popular songs was the trend of 2007 when many artists from different genres of music put their own twist on Rihanna’s massive hit single ‘Umbrella’. But it looks like it’s not going to be the big thing for music in 2008.

Robyn was the first to make a duet out of a new song when she reworked one of Snoop Dogg’s newest songs into a duet. Mind you, her take on it was hot. Now, Ciara has followed her lead and did a duet version of Janet Jackson’s ‘Feedback’. And much like Robyn and Snoop’s so-called duet, the R&B/hip hop singer’s so-called duet with Janet is the hotness!

Some Feedback from Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson goes through quite a transformation on the New York City set of her new ‘Feedback’ music video. The video is being helmed by British director Saam Farahmand.

ExtraTV.com got to talk to Janet on the set of the video and she got asked to comment on her new album entitled ‘Discipline’. She says “I love the dance. I love the mid tempo stuff. I love the slow songs and the baby making songs. It still has that element to it.” I guess it’s pretty clear that she loves the songs on her album. She also admitted that she knows how her songs put listeners in the mood by saying “You don’t know how many people come up to me and say, ‘This child was conceived listening to you.’”

New Janet

blog7-janet-jackson.jpg

It has just been confirmed on Tuesday that Janet Jackson will be releasing a new album in February. The yet to be named project is the follow up to 2006’s critical and commercial flop ’20 YO’. And unlike that record, her new album is not going to be produced by Jermaine Dupri but by Def Jam CEO Antonio ‘LA’ Reid.

Janet is expected to go out on tour to support her new record. But she also said that she was going to tour for the last one and it didn’t happen. So I’ll quit while I’m ahead and not going to expect much.
