American Idol Rant

Former American Idol finalist Chris Slight wants the contestants from this past season of the reality TV talent show to know that they are worthless and they better get used to it. The never even has-been singer took to his blog to rant about his fellow alums and warn them that their minor success is about to burn out. Chris wrote: “You’re not going to be successful. You’re not going to be millionaires (with the exception of MAYBE Kris and Adam). No one will care about you. Those fans who’ve been asking for your autograph all tour long — 98 percent of them don’t give a flying poo about you once next season of ‘Idol’ starts. In other words, your days of being a star are over. But that’s all right — so are mine.” I’m not going to deny it because a lot of the Idol alums don’t have careers but he’s really coming off as bitter. Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson didn’t win but they went on to have very successful music and/or film careers.

Jennifer Hudson Talks Family Tragedy

Jennifer Hudson is slowly but surely opening up about the tragedy she suffered last October when her mother, brother and nephew were brutally murdered. In the new issue of Essence magazine, the singer talks about her bond with her mother saying she was a “mama’s baby” and that “I’d go and sleep in her bed until I was 15 years old.” Jennifer’s fiancé David Otunga received her mother’s blessing to marry the singer and he revealed that they don’t talk about the incident but that when so much is uncertain, Jennifer can always count on him. He said “She doesn’t have to worry about losing me. I’m always going to be right here.” Jennifer attributes her strength to David and to her faith.

Carrie Underwood Rakes in Big Money

Carrie Underwood has had picture perfect success recently. While the 26-year old American Idol alum has seen nothing but that since she started her professional career, she’s still giving us reminders that she’s on top. Carrie was revealed to have raked in $14 million last year. She was far and away the top earner for all Idol alums. Jennifer Hudson came in second with $5 million, Kelly Clarkson with $4.2 million, Jordin Sparks with $3.1 million and rounding out the top 5 was Kellie Pickler with $2.3 million. Hmm, I wonder why David Cook and David Archuleta aren’t on the list.

Jennifer Hudson is Back

Jennifer Hudson and Faith Hill brought their A-game when they performed at the Super Bowl XLIII between the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida this past Sunday. The 27-year old former American Idol contestant sang the US National Anthem while the 41-year old country singer Faith sang ‘America the Beautiful’ during the pre-game show. The event was the first public appearance and performance for Jennifer since the brutal murders of her mother, brother and nephew. And what a way to come back! I hope she’s had enough time to mourn and move on and that she can focus on work again.

Jennifer Hudson’s Super Bowl performance lip-synced?

Jennifer Hudson has started working again after the tragic murder of her brother, mother and 7 year-old nephew in October. Hudson had a big comeback singing the national anthem during the Super Bowl’s opening last Sunday. However, her singing has stirred a lot of rumors including the rumor that any self-respecting singer would not want to surface: lip-synced. So did Hudson lip synced the singing of the national anthem during the Super Bowl? The rumor has elicited mixed responses from viewers with some of them saying she delivered a good performance and it was still her voice though lip-synched. However, there are those who criticized Hudson and the show’s organizers for faking it.

The rumor was further fanned by show producer Ricky Minor who said he insisted that Hudson sing to a pre-recorded track since it is the right way to do it. Minor said this way they would be able to avoid glitches which would devastate the performance. Minor should however explain what he just said because a lot of people are getting confused. Did Hudson used a pre-recorded track which means only the music was pre -recorded or did she pre-recorded the song which means she just lip-synched the national anthem?

Jennifer Hudson in the Spotlight

Jennifer Hudson attended the grand opening of the Kwiat flagship boutique on Madison Avenue in New York City last week. The 26-year old singer and actress also recently sang the National Anthem at the Democratic National Convention as requested by Presidential candidate Barack Obama. Who knew he was a ‘Dreamgirls’ fan? Jen’s new self-titled album is set to drop in stores on September 30. The lead single off the album ‘Spotlight’ was written and produced by Ne-Yo and Stargate. Considering who she’s worked with, I’m pretty sure that it’s going to be a hit. I’m pretty sure Barack’s going to get himself a copy too.
