Nas recently blogged about the importance of protecting family and “our woman”. He wrote “Right now I’m shouting out to real dads. Some are great role models with real academic achievements. Some are not … We deserve the love!!! We put up with everything, standing true to what’s real and letting life take its course protecting our household, our woman, our children, our family … Biggest Shout To My Son On The Way!!” it’s kind of ironic coming from the rapper who is trying to stonewall his pregnant estranged wife, singer Kelis, from collecting spousal support, child support and money to cover numerous other pregnancy-related expenses.

Kelis is 8 months pregnant and she doesn’t have any money to her name and it’s all because her soon-to-be ex, rapper Nas, refuses to pay for a thing. The singer is asking her estranged husband to pay for spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses and half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She is also looking for $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child is born and $20,000 for strollers, cribs and other baby supplies. Kelis said “My survival is based on [Nas'] will at this time. If he does not want to pay for an expense, it does not get paid.” She probably just wants to still live like a diva.

Kelis has been dropped from her record deal with Jive. The hip-hop star’s career appears to have been in decline for some time, culminating in the lackluster display of latest album Kelis Was Here in 2006. It has now been claimed that the singer, who is married to Nas, has left the label and is now seeking a new home.
Kelis released two albums on Jive–2003’s Tasty and last year’s Kelis Was Here–and is now said to be working on an independent record with Cee-Lo, one half of Gnarls Barkley. Her manager Jeff Rabhan commented: “It was a case of being in the ever-shrinking world of the record industry and finding herself on a label she wasn’t signed to and without a champion.”
“She’s a different kind of artist–very image- and style-driven. It’s either something you get or you don’t,” explained Rabhan, who also said Kelis is considering going into acting.
