American Idol champ Kris Allen recently debuted the music video for his single ‘Live Like We’re Dying’. The 24-year old singer told PopEater “It was cool because we actually shot it in the desert in L.A. in the middle of nowhere in this junkyard. I’m pulling the big cord through the junkyard…then I plug in the clock and it starts counting down to zero. It was my first video, so I was really trying to have a great time.” Kris’ self-titled debut album will be in stores next week, November 17, Tuesday. Unlike Adam Lambert, Kris’ debut seems to be doing well enough.

The victory song that American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi co-wrote and that season winner Kris Allen performed, ‘No Boundaries’, has been dropped from the Idol tour. Usually, the victory ballads performed by and written for the reality show competition champions have achieved great success, such as Kelly Clarkson’s ‘A Moment Like This’. Those songs are also staples of the Idol tour performances. But I guess the song just proved to be as popular as Kara being a judge on the show. ‘No Boundaries’ was a dud in concert so it’s out. I wonder if Kara’s fate as a judge will follow the same path.

Adam Lambert recently announced that he has signed a record deal with 19 Entertainment/RCA Recordings. Just like American Idol champ Kris Allen who got signed with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, Adam’s album is set to be released this fall. I guess we’ll really see who the better man is once fall comes around. The singer said “I’m thrilled that we’ve come to a creative and collaborative partnership and look forward to developing a really exciting album. We are 100 percent on the same page and are all anxiously awaiting the start of the recordings. It’s going to be ridiculous! Get ready!”

While most are calling Kris Allen’s win over Adam Lambert an American Idol upset and some are thinking that Kris was the right choice when it comes to the marketability, some are also saying that Adam was done a big favor by not being named the winner. For one thing, Adam won’t be stuck singing the song ‘No Boundaries’ for the next six months to a year. Considering that it was co-written by Kara DioGuardi, it’s a sucky song. It’s pretty much a given that Adam is going to get a record deal. The challenge now is for him to make a great album that not only has his stamp but is also marketable. It then comes to who’s going to last in the cut throat music industry.

For the final song to be sang in competition on American Idol season 8, both Adam Lambert and Kris Allen tried their chops at the winner’s coronation song ‘No Boundaries’. The song was written by Kara DioGuardi. The problem is that the lyrics suck. And they say she’s one of the best producers of this day. Adam did a pretty good job on it but Kris seemed to have a hard time trying to hit the higher notes of the song. It somehow made me think that the song was specifically chosen to make Adam shine brighter. We all know that Kris is better off in his lower and mid registers.

The favorite of the two American Idol finalists chose to repeat his most dazzling performance to date: his rendition of Tears for Fears’ “Mad World”. The arrangements were almost the same and so were the reactions. Randy gave Adam Lambert’s performance an A+ and Kara said the following about it: “You changed the game up for every other contestant … you rocked it again tonight!” Simon Cowell thought it was too theatrical this time, but what can you expect from him, eh? It was an interesting move on Adam Lambert’s behalf, and what’s more interesting is that it seems to have worked. Kris Allen seems to have his work cut out for him.

American Idol finalist Allison Iraheta was given a reason to be a cry baby when she was the latest contestant to be booted off of the show. After all of the comments made on performance night, it was pretty surprising to see Kris Allen be the first to be sent to safety, followed by Adam Lambert and then Danny Gokey. Allison took her dismissal in stride though, belting out an energized reprise of Janis Joplin’s ‘Cry Baby’. Host Ryan Seacrest seems to be a big fan of the girl telling her before the show’s end “I’ll be playing you on the radio real soon.” The remaining 3 contestants will travel to their hometowns this week before performing 2 songs next week – 1 of their choosing and another from the judges. I wonder which judge isn’t going to get a pick.
