Britney Spears set for MTV comeback

Britney Spears is looking back to her old self and it seems the people who matter are taking notice.

Bosses at MTV could be set to ask her to return to September’s Video Music Awards (VMAs) despite her disastrous performance just 12 months ago.

She gave a dreadful and out of time rendition of single Gimme More at the bash in Las Vegas. She was later spotted crying backstage.

So could Brit be set for her second “comeback” in as many years?

MTV president Van Toffler revealed: “Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?”

Let’s hope Britney gets it right this time. Otherwise she might not get that third and final strike before she’s down and out.

MTV Goes Hollywood

The MTV Video Music Awards are usually held in New York City. They changed it up last year when they held it in Las Vegas and this year, they’re going to Hollywood. The ceremony, which will mark its 25th anniversary, will air on September 7. They will be presenting awards from sound stages, city streets and even rooftops. President of MTV Networks Music Group, Van Toffler said in a statement “With Paramount Pictures as the ideal setting, the glamour and musical heritage of L.A. are sure to be catalysts for creating explosive pop culture moments that the VMAs are known for.”

More Work for TI

Rapper TI may be convicted on gun possession charges but that’s not stopping him from getting jobs, post-jail sentencing. First, there were reports on the MTV reality show that will follow him on his 1000 hours of community service before heading to prison. Now, according to reports, he has a 3-picture deal with Screen Gems. The partnership will launch the crime drama ‘Bone Deep’ which will co-star Matt Dillon. The film is about a group of bank robbers who pull off a daring high-risk heist and are dragged into one last job by a freshly paroled pal. I’m placing all my chips in that TI will play the freshly paroled character. He’s bound to have some experience to pull from.

Flabby Fergie

Fergie performed with Nelly at the MTV Video Music Japan on Saturday. Do you remember all those pregnancy rumors that came out after she announced that she was engaged? Well, there’s still no sign of a baby bump but there’s been substantial increase in her waist measurement. The singer is looking a bit soft in the middle if you ask me. There’s nothing wrong with that though. But considering that she shows off her tummy as part of her living, you would think she would at least make an effort and keep toned. Now her stomach matches her butter face.

Tokio Hotel “Ready, Set, Go!” LIVE on MTV

SCREAM featuring “Ready, Set, Go!” is in stores NOW!

Jordin Sparks has No Air

jordin-sparks.jpg

Jordin Sparks was on TRL for their ‘Spankin’ New Ladies Week’ at the MTV Times Square Studios in New York City on Monday. She performed her new single ‘No Air’ which features Chris Brown. There was no Chris who performed with her though. The 18-year old American Idol champ also premiered the video for her new single.

Honestly, does anyone still care for the girl or what she does? I’m predicting another fallen idol in the horizon. It looks like Carrie Underwood is the only one left who’s still going strong. Country definitely has its benefits as it’s the highest selling on all music genres right now.

Ashlee’s New Video

blog10-ashlee-simpson.jpg

Ashlee Simpson is still a singer everyone! The younger Simpson has actually filmed a new music video for her song ‘Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya). The video was directed by Alan Ferguson earlier this month. It shows Ashlee seeking counseling after an opinion overload from the voices of her family, record executives, fans, haters and the media.

Pete Wentz told MTV news what he thought about the video saying “It’s probably the weirdest video I’ve seen of hers. It’s like a Salvador Dalí painting meets ‘Being John Malkovich’. She just went to this weird place for it. It has this kind of multiple personality, like the song does.”

The video will premiere on TRL on December 20.

Nas and the N-Bomb

blog10-nas.jpg

Nas has a new album that’s set to drop out on December 11 but apparently, that’s not the only thing he’s dropping. He’s reportedly dropping the N-bomb too.

Def Jam vehemently denied reports that the rapper was going to name him next album ‘Nigga’ but Nas has fuelled the controversy by saying that he would instead use the epithet’s correct spelling for the album’s title.

While people like Reverend Jessie Jackson are saying that it’s morally offensive and socially distasteful, Nas told MTV News that “[People] shouldn’t trip off the title. The songs are crazier than the title.”

He’s not helping his case any.

MTV Really Loves JT

blog5-justin-timberlake.jpg

It doesn’t matter which side of the Atlantic you’re on, you will always have love for Justin Timberlake. The MTV Europe Video Music Award nominees have just been announced and JT leads all with four nods. He dominated last year and is set to repeat at this year’s show which would be held in Munich on November 1.

In the runner up spot with 3 nods were Amy Winehouse, Avril Lavigne, Beyonce, Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Nelly Furtado and Rihanna.

Justin is nominated for Video Star Award, Headliner Award, Ultimate Urban Act and Solo Artist of 2007.

Kanye leads 50 Cent in CD sales face-off

kanye1.jpg
50 Cent may be getting hip-hop’s equivalent of a gold watch next week. Early reports have Kanye West beating 50 in their much-hyped battle of album sales: West’s “Graduation” is on pace to sell about 575,000 to 700,000 its first week out, while 50 Cent’s “Curtis” is on track to do 550,000, according to Billboard magazine.

As of day one, Kanye had sold 437,000 copies to 50’s 310,000, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

Both albums came out Tuesday, and a confident 50 Cent famously announced that he would retire if West outsold him in first-week sales.

“I just don’t view him as competition based on our previous sales histories,” 50 Cent told The Associated Press last month.

But it looks as if 50 underestimated the power of West, and perhaps, overestimated his own appeal.

“I don’t think it’s helped 50 that so many of these pre release singles that have come out have fizzled on the charts right away,” said Jonathan Cohen, Billboard’s senior editor. “There were street date changes. It has just not been a good run-up to this record for him.”

Meanwhile, Cohen says West is having a more “charmed” experience, despite his recent tantrum at the MTV Video Music Awards after going home empty-handed.

“These tantrums he goes on, these outlandish comments he makes, they don’t really hurt him,” said Cohen. “If anything, they’ve got more people interested in what he’s all about.”

Still, don’t finalize those retirement party plans for 50 just yet; there are several days to go before a final tally is determined, and he could catch up and overtake West.

“It is a projection,” Cohen said of the initial sales predictions. “It can very easily deviate.”

And there’s still the potential of a third-party candidate winning the race: country superstar Kenny Chesney, who’s “Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates” also was released on Tuesday, is so far on pace to sell 400,000 to 550,000 copies.

Britney No Pop Queen Anymore

britney-mtv.jpg
Let’s face it Brittany coming out on MTV and trying to act sweet and innocent just does not cut it any more. Someone should tell her that she needs to change her style know she is a mom. I think that the guidance for her is lost somewhere in trying to sell something that is just not there anymore. She will never be a Madonna because she is not smart enough to reinvent herself. Brittany sit down and take a long look at yourself and ask yourself if you are proud of what you do and then figure out if the people in your life look out for your best interest.. If not take control girl… May be she is trying to hard to prove something that she was in the past but now she has lost it, Britney you were great no denying that but you could remain great if you just try being what you are today. Do not live in the past, the world changes every minute and you have to live your today not you past and today there are other pop queens’ and you are not one of them, accept it and you’ll be happier.

Kanye West Loses It Again, Says He’ll ‘Never Return To MTV’

Kanye West has never been shy about voicing his opinions, especially when it comes to awards shows.

In 2004, he walked out of the American Music Awards, claiming he was “robbed” in the Best New Artist category (see “Usher, Outkast Clean Up; Kanye Strikes Out At American Music Awards”). The following year, he promised hellfire and brimstone if his Late Registration album didn’t take home the Grammy for Album of the Year (see “Kanye’s At It Again: ‘If I Don’t Win Album Of The Year I’m Gonna Have A Problem’ “). And, perhaps most famously of all, he stormed the stage at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards after losing the award for Video of the Year And now, well, there’s another outburst to add to his highlight reel.kanye-west-mtv-vma.jpg

According to several sources backstage at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards — and a report published late Sunday night by The Associated Press — West lost it again, this time because his performance of “Stronger” took place in the Palms’ Hugh Hefner Sky Villa and not on the main stage
“Kanye was watching the closing performance [a medley featuring Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Nelly Furtado] on a closed-circuit monitor, and he started getting upset,” a source who was backstage told MTV News. “He started asking anyone who’d listen why he wasn’t allowed to perform on the main stage. ‘Why did I perform in just a suite?’ he was saying. ‘Justin’s my boy, but even he gets to perform in both a suite and on the main stage? Something’s wrong here.’ ”

According to the AP, West was also upset about being shut out of all five categories in which he was nominated . He reportedly yelled, “That’s two years in a row, man … I’m trying hard, man, I have the … #1 record, man.”

AP also reported that West claimed he would “never return to MTV.”

At a pre-VMA concert on Friday, West also expressed his frustration that Britney Spears would be opening the show instead of him, freestyling, “I can’t believe she would perform. She hasn’t had a hit record in years” . And according to MTV News’ source, he was claiming the same thing during his tirade.

“He said, ‘Brit hasn’t had a hit in like 5 million years and she opens the show?!?’ ” the source said.

Britney Glitters, Justin and Rihanna Golden at VMAs

justintimberlake.jpg

Oh Britney. You have given us yet another performance where you lipsynch, and badly, while wearing as little as possible, to a song no one will remember in six months. This is nothing new, and sadly, it’s actually worse than ever. Maybe now is time to embrace the fact that talent is actually a necessity when attempting a singing career. Shocking though it may be, some actually enjoy singers who can, well, sing well. You might look into a career more fitting to your needs; should anyone need an unintelligent, burnt out, baby dropping train wreck, I am sure you will be the first person they call. This was actually the best thing you could have done; you have finally put an end to your career. Thank you MTV. This is even better than when you canceled the Tom Green show. Justin Timberlake shouted upon accepting the inaugural Moon Man trophy for Quadruple Threat of the Year, one of four new hyperbolically titled honors handed out in lieu of standards like Best R&B or Best Hip-Hop Video. Timberlake was also named the VMAs’ Male Artist of the Year.

Nas fires back at Bill O’Reilly

nas-repper.jpg

Nas has hit back at Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly, who claimed that his inclusion at a concert dedicated to the Virginia Tech massacre is insulting to the memories of the victims.

O’Reilly claimed that picking an artist such as Nas for the Concert For Virginia Tech, which took place last night (September 6), “insults the victims, the university, and the entire commonwealth.”

The rapper was set to join the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, and Phil Vassar.

However, Nas has now hit back at O’Reilly, claiming he is racist.

In an interview with MTV, he said: “Everybody has a marketing plan; his marketing plan is racism.

“It just shows you what bloodsuckers do: they abuse something like the Virginia Tech [tragedy] for show ratings. You can’t talk to a person like that.”

The rapper defended his lyrics as a reflection of the reality of America’s streets and ghettos.

He added: “I had a best friend killed, plenty other friends killed. I been through it. I seen it.

“I think that’s what makes it important that I come through and show love to those people [at Virginia Tech].”

Britney Spears To Open The VMAS?

mtv-britney.jpg

Britney Spears is hotly tipped to make her live music comeback by opening the MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas next month. Sources close to the pop superstar have revealed there’s a “very strong chance” the Toxic singer will perform a new song right at the start of the ceremony. I bet if she is slated to appear she’ll cancel at the last minute! Or they’ll announce her name for her to come out and Brit will be a no show! This will more than likely happen seeing as she’s canceled on alot of people recently! But oh well I really don’t care cause I just don’t watch MTV..just stating my opinion! Always My doubts are there for this singer coz every time there’s a positive story of her come back the very next day she proves herself to be more crazy and I don’t think she can come back like.

The Dr. Pepper Band Bubble

the-dr-pepper-band-bubble.jpgEver wondered what it would be like to see a band write their music? Dr. Pepper is sponsoring just such an opportunity, that is if you live in New York near Pier 54. The band Cartel will be living and working in a plastic bubble for 20 days, all for a show shot by MTV. Cameras will be on the 5 band members as they write and record their latest CD. The band is perfect for this sort of stunt, heck their lead guitarist is even named Joseph Pepper. MTV will shoot four episodes in a short series about the Band in the Bubble, and although this venture is sponsored by Dr. Pepper and they will brand the hell out of the bubble (and presumably force Cartel to drink LOTS of their soda) they insist that is the extent of their influence on the project. Cartel won’t be writing any jingles for the soda, if that’s what you’re wondering. As much as I love Dr. Pepper, I always cringe when I see publicity stunts like this. Although, I doubt I will be able to resist watching the show, no matter how high minded I think I am.
