Britney Spears is looking back to her old self and it seems the people who matter are taking notice.
Bosses at MTV could be set to ask her to return to September’s Video Music Awards (VMAs) despite her disastrous performance just 12 months ago.
She gave a dreadful and out of time rendition of single Gimme More at the bash in Las Vegas. She was later spotted crying backstage.
So could Brit be set for her second “comeback” in as many years?
MTV president Van Toffler revealed: “Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?”
Let’s hope Britney gets it right this time. Otherwise she might not get that third and final strike before she’s down and out.

The MTV Video Music Awards are usually held in New York City. They changed it up last year when they held it in Las Vegas and this year, they’re going to Hollywood. The ceremony, which will mark its 25th anniversary, will air on September 7. They will be presenting awards from sound stages, city streets and even rooftops. President of MTV Networks Music Group, Van Toffler said in a statement “With Paramount Pictures as the ideal setting, the glamour and musical heritage of L.A. are sure to be catalysts for creating explosive pop culture moments that the VMAs are known for.â€

A dateless Rihanna, or at least looking dateless, sizzled on the red carpet at the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards which was held at the Chum/City Building on Sunday in Toronto, Canada. The 20-year old R&B singer was awarded the first trophy of the night, Best International Video for her single ‘Don’t Stop the Music’. The Barbadian babe also won an MMVA for the MuchMusic.com Most Watched Video award for her smash hit ‘Umbrella’. Rihanna won both awards that she was nominated for. Congratulations! Now where exactly was your boyfriend when you were off cleaning house at awards shows? Where’s the support?

Amy Winehouse is still a mess and everyone around her knows it. The British pop wreck’s collaborator on ‘Back to Black’, Mark Ronson, was set to work with her for the theme song to the new James Bond flick but it didn’t pan out. Mark said “We did work on it but we never finished it. I don’t think it will happen unless by some miracle it gets recorded and someone sings on it. I’m not sure Amy is ready to work on music yet.†Wino’s rep released a politically correct statement about Mark’s comment saying “Mark presented a track to Amy, but she had other ideas about the direction it should take. We’re sure they will continue to make great music together.†I’m sure they will unless Wino ends up dead soon.

Rihanna kept it young and fresh in a shiny silver Dolce & Gabbana dress at the 2008 Brit Awards which was held at Earls Court in London on Wednesday. I’m still not that much into her choice of clothes for the red carpet but at the very least, this is better than the last couple of red carpet looks she’s had.
The Barbados singer performed on the show by teaming up with an unlikely partner in the form of British band Klaxons. They teamed up for a mash-up of her hit song ‘Umbrella’ and their song ‘Golden Skans’. With the number of ‘Umbrella’ renditions, she has to make hers different every time.

All I can say is, Natalie, honey, you better stay the heck away from London. Otherwise, Amy might go crazy on you.
Natalie Cole is speaking out against what she calls “rewarding bad behavior.” The singer says Amy Winehouse should never have been awarded five Grammy awards, especially for Song of the Year. She said, “I don’t think she should have won. I think it sends a bad message to our young people who are trying to get into this business, the ones who are trying to do it right and trying to keep themselves together.”
Natalie says she lost five years of her life to substance abuse and she feels for Amy. “I mean, she could die. This is about discipline and hard work, and you don’t get to just do your drugs and go onstage and get rewarded.”

Johnny Depp’s wife, singer Vanessa Paradis, performed at the 2008 NRJ Music Awards which was held last Saturday in Cannes, France. And when I say performed, I mean she sucked big time. Not only did she totally lip synched her song but she pretty much did like Britney Spears on her VMA performance. Vanessa meandered around the stage so lethargically that it can pretty much put anyone to sleep.
This should serve as a lesson to anyone to not do drugs before any performance. I don’t care what anyone says. You don’t act like that unless you happen to be on drugs.

Rihanna performed her latest hit song ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ at the 2008 NRJ Music Awards where she also picked up the award for International Song of the Year. The Barbados babe worked her magic in fluorescent tank tops and plaid skinny jeans. There’s also some amazing choreography from a bunch of break dancers. Now that is how you bring down the house and bring it down rocking. Everyone knows that 2007 was Rihanna’s year but it looks like 2008 is still going to be going to her. There’s absolutely no beating her – not even by Janet Jackson. Rihanna is queen!

Alicia Keys looked magical in magenta when she walked the red carpet at the 2008 BET Honors at the Warner Theatre on Saturday night in Washington DC. The 27-year old, 9-time Grammy Award winning singer took home the Entertainment Award for her achievements and contributions as a leader in the entertainment industry.
See, this is how you make a big splash in your field of work. Why can’t all the Britney’s, Paris’ and Lindsay’s of the world just be traded in for people like Alicia? The world will be a much better place. Congratulations Alicia! And thanks for being a good role model.

2007 can just be renamed as the ‘Year of Rihanna’ and further proof that is that the Barbados singer was named as one of the 25 Top Stars of 2007 for Entertainment Weekly’s ‘Entertainers of the Year’. Her appearance on the list came with an interview and here are some of her answers:
Celebrity fan she was most surprised by: “Celine Dion. I’ve been in Europe for maybe a couple weeks now, traveling and doing a lot of press and tour rehearsal. We’ve done, like, three TV shows at the same time. And every time she sees me, she’s always singing one of my songs. I just love her! She is a legend. And if she only knew how starstruck I was meeting her.”
The career she’d most like to have besides her own: “Kate Moss. She just looks like she has a fun job. I know it’s hard work, but she’s a very successful model. I would like to try something different instead of just singing. If I had to spend a day in the life of another career, it would be hers.”

It’s not much news anymore when a celebrity takes a fall on stage. But when that celebrity happens to be a big teen sensation and the performance aired for all the world to see, it’s big news again.
Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers took a spill when he and his brothers performed at the 2007 American Music Awards on Sunday at the Nokia Theatre in LA. He tripped over part of their set up and fell on some broken glass. Ouch! It looks like he even cut his hand on some of the shards and bled.
Joe made like a true performer though when he popped right back up and continued to sing.

She’s snagged a couple of Country Music awards and a ‘Gossip Girl’ hottie in the form of Chace Crawford. It seems that Carrie Underwood is on a roll and now, she’s taking Keith Urban with her.
She has reportedly signed on for a 24-city tour with Keith Urban that’s set to kick off next year. The ‘Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Carnival Ride Tour’ is sure to make headlines as Keith and Carrie are two of the hottest things in country music right now. Tickets for their joint tour will go on sale come December 1.
I can already see country music fans lining up.

Rihanna changed from her shining green dress on the red carpet to a very supportive strapless black dress complete with poofy polka skirt when she took the stage to perform at the 2007 World Music Award in Monte Carlo, Monaco on Sunday.
I’m sure that after her performance, the Barbados-born beauty took some time to thank the heavens that she did not have any wardrobe malfunctions. Although, I think that the likes of Prince Albert of Monaco was hoping for that as the principality was snapped taking a good look at what Rihanna had to offer.
On a different note, congratulations goes to Rihanna for picking up the award for World’s Best Selling Pop Female Artist.

Even if you don’t listen to her album and just judge it by what she’s been doing over the time it was recorded and promoted, you all know the Britney Spears’ ‘Blackout’ album is pretty much the nail in the coffin of her career. The Wall Street Journal thinks so too when they did a review on her album.
They said “A phalanx of producers and backing vocalists exert more of an influence on a disc that’s not quite a mess but only occasionally rises above a muddle… as a vocalist, Ms. Spears sounds weary, snide and at times disconnected. On some songs, her voice seems grafted to the material as if an afterthought… At the bottom register, her voice is a throaty bleat… With Blackout, Ms. Spears fails to deliver a recording that will re-establish her as a dominant pop star rather than a 25-year-old woman who seems bent on self-destruction.”

When you’ve got the world in the palm of your hand, do something good just like the three new celebrities who have joined the (PRODUCT) RED Gap Campaign. It’s a for-benefit brand that was designed to help eliminate AIDS in Africa.
Actress Anne Hathaway, Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Wyclef Jean embracing his daughter Angelina, and Grammy Award winning artist John Legend with the African Children’s Choir are the three newest ads. A reintroduction of a series of images which debuted in the summer were also part of the campaign – actor Terrence Howard and his 3 children Hunter, Aubrey and Heaven, Dixie’ Chicks’ Natalie Maines with her sons Beckett and Slade and actress Abigail Breslin with her friend Curious George.

He dominated last year and is set to repeat at this year’s show which would be held in Munich on November 1.
In the runner up spot with 3 nods were Amy Winehouse, Avril Lavigne, Beyonce, Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Nelly Furtado and Rihanna.

Let’s face it Brittany coming out on MTV and trying to act sweet and innocent just does not cut it any more. Someone should tell her that she needs to change her style know she is a mom. I think that the guidance for her is lost somewhere in trying to sell something that is just not there anymore. She will never be a Madonna because she is not smart enough to reinvent herself. Brittany sit down and take a long look at yourself and ask yourself if you are proud of what you do and then figure out if the people in your life look out for your best interest.. If not take control girl… May be she is trying to hard to prove something that she was in the past but now she has lost it, Britney you were great no denying that but you could remain great if you just try being what you are today. Do not live in the past, the world changes every minute and you have to live your today not you past and today there are other pop queens’ and you are not one of them, accept it and you’ll be happier.

Kanye West has never been shy about voicing his opinions, especially when it comes to awards shows.
In 2004, he walked out of the American Music Awards, claiming he was “robbed” in the Best New Artist category (see “Usher, Outkast Clean Up; Kanye Strikes Out At American Music Awards”). The following year, he promised hellfire and brimstone if his Late Registration album didn’t take home the Grammy for Album of the Year (see “Kanye’s At It Again: ‘If I Don’t Win Album Of The Year I’m Gonna Have A Problem’ “). And, perhaps most famously of all, he stormed the stage at the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards after losing the award for Video of the Year And now, well, there’s another outburst to add to his highlight reel.
According to several sources backstage at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards — and a report published late Sunday night by The Associated Press — West lost it again, this time because his performance of “Stronger” took place in the Palms’ Hugh Hefner Sky Villa and not on the main stage
“Kanye was watching the closing performance [a medley featuring Justin Timberlake, Timbaland and Nelly Furtado] on a closed-circuit monitor, and he started getting upset,” a source who was backstage told MTV News. “He started asking anyone who’d listen why he wasn’t allowed to perform on the main stage. ‘Why did I perform in just a suite?’ he was saying. ‘Justin’s my boy, but even he gets to perform in both a suite and on the main stage? Something’s wrong here.’ ”
According to the AP, West was also upset about being shut out of all five categories in which he was nominated . He reportedly yelled, “That’s two years in a row, man … I’m trying hard, man, I have the … #1 record, man.”
AP also reported that West claimed he would “never return to MTV.”
At a pre-VMA concert on Friday, West also expressed his frustration that Britney Spears would be opening the show instead of him, freestyling, “I can’t believe she would perform. She hasn’t had a hit record in years” . And according to MTV News’ source, he was claiming the same thing during his tirade.
“He said, ‘Brit hasn’t had a hit in like 5 million years and she opens the show?!?’ ” the source said.

Oh Britney. You have given us yet another performance where you lipsynch, and badly, while wearing as little as possible, to a song no one will remember in six months. This is nothing new, and sadly, it’s actually worse than ever. Maybe now is time to embrace the fact that talent is actually a necessity when attempting a singing career. Shocking though it may be, some actually enjoy singers who can, well, sing well. You might look into a career more fitting to your needs; should anyone need an unintelligent, burnt out, baby dropping train wreck, I am sure you will be the first person they call. This was actually the best thing you could have done; you have finally put an end to your career. Thank you MTV. This is even better than when you canceled the Tom Green show. Justin Timberlake shouted upon accepting the inaugural Moon Man trophy for Quadruple Threat of the Year, one of four new hyperbolically titled honors handed out in lieu of standards like Best R&B or Best Hip-Hop Video. Timberlake was also named the VMAs’ Male Artist of the Year.
