Country Singer Taylor Swift has the #1 stop again

Country singer Taylor Swift has reclaimed the #1 billing and with that the top spot on the Billboard’s U.S. pop album chart for the third time in non-consecutive weeks. That is remarkable in some ways because after taking the top spot her album did see a dip and has climbed back to that position not once but twice.

This is a clear indication for her growing popularity and the nineteen year-old took the spot on Wednesday with her release Fearless, which sold 330,000 copies on the week ending December 21.

Taylor’s narrowly beat R&B star Keyshia Cole, her debut album A Different Me sold 322,000 copies, taking in the number two spot in its opening week. Singer/actor Jamie Foxx who was also making his debut with the album Intuition grabbed the 3rd spot, with sales of 265,000 copies.

But what is really heartening to see it that Britney Spears successful comeback seems to be continuing for now with Circus selling 196,000 copies which put Britney at the forth position. In fifth place is Beyonce with her release I Am…Sasha Fierce, which sold 195,000.

Brits Choose Madonna

The British have made up their mind and the numbers definitely show that they prefer their adopted child Madonna over Mariah Carey. The chart results have recently been announced and the Queen of Pop’s new album ‘Hard Candy’ has topped the UK charts by coming in at the #1 spot. Mariah’s ‘E=MC2’ only managed to debut at #3 on the album charts. Additionally, Madonna’s ‘4 Minutes (To Save the World)’ is at #1 for a 3rd week on the UK singles chart. She doesn’t stop there as ‘Hard Candy’ also takes the top spot in more than 25 countries as more numbers roll in. Congratulations!

Disney star Miley Cyrus is the biggest selling female artist of the year, selling 2.5 million copies of the ‘Hannah Montana’ soundtrack. Akon sold 2.7 million albums while Fergie sold 2.4 million copies of her debut album which was released in 06.

Mariah Carey Effortless

Here’s some proof that Mariah Carey is pretty much a household name. She doesn’t have a new album out yet she has a Top Ten single without even exerting any effort. She better thank the people who said that digital downloads count for something towards chart success. Her ‘All I Want for Christmas’ is #8 this week in the US according to Soundscan. It looks like people are really into the holiday spirit as Josh Groban’s Christmas album actually took the top spot by selling over 500,000 records this past week and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. Who knew Santa can be a big capitalist ploy?

Leona Lewis’ ‘Bleeding Love’ continues to reign over the UK singles’ charts. The list was announced on Sunday and it marks the seventh week that Leona has been on top. The X-Factor winner’s debut CD ‘Spirit’ is also at the top spot of the albums’ chart and it’s been there for the last four weeks.

But ‘Bleeding Love’ is facing some stiff competition this holiday season. The rest of the singles chart, in order, is made up of T2 featuring Jodie Aysha with ‘Heartbroken’, Girls Aloud with ‘Call the Shots’, Timbaland with ‘Apologize’, Take That with ‘Rule the World’, Alicia Keys with ‘No One’, Mark Ronson featuring Amy Winehouse with ‘Valerie’, Mariah Carey with ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’, Shayne Ward with ‘Breathless’ and Soulja Boy with ‘Crank That (Soulja Boy)’.
