Amy Winehouse on the warpath

Amy Winehouse made Pete Doherty look angelic last night after punching a fan, spitting chewing gum into the crowd and calling Kanye West a c*** on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.

Her obnoxious behaviour tainted what should have been a magical comeback set.

The question on everybody’s lips was whether or not she would turn up sober and it was admittedly hard to tell if she was intoxicated, as her stage persona is to play up to her rebellion. But coming onstage with a beaming smile suggested she was over the moon to be in the spotlight again after her hospital spell last week.

The songstress started with promise, looking radiant in a blue cocktail dress which squeezed her boobs into an impressive cleavage and detracted attention from her super slim limbs.

She sang her heart out during classic tracks Tears Dry On Their Own, Wake Up Alone and Back To Black.

Amy also giggled about her wardrobe choice, saying: “It took three women to get me into this dress. Girls, isn’t it funny how it takes so long to get ready but no time to get undressed. What’s that all about?”

But things turned sour when she spoke about hubby Blake coming out of jail and fans booed.

Amy defended him, saying: “Don’t boo. I’ll find your phone and ring your mum and tell them about your bad manners. Manners cost you nothing.”

She then rambled on about never having loved a white man before, adding: “When Blake came along he bashed me over the head with a cricket bat. Not literally.”

The performance became more about her declarations of love than entertaining her supporters. Before launching into Hey Little Rich Girl, the precocious star went on a tirade about Jay-Z.

She ordered the crowd to welcome him and told everyone to be grateful they weren’t getting Kanye West as he is a “c***”.

Amy then played up to the cameras during finale track Rehab, jumping off stage, stumbling around and lapping up the attention from adoring fans. But the final straw came when the troubled star shockingly punched an audience member.

Glasto boss MICHAEL EAVIS defended Amy saying: “The man deserved it. He grabbed Amy’s breasts as she went past him.”

However another fan in the front row said it was actually a girl called Claire that was hit and she only tried to give the singer a high five.

Kanye Caps it Off

Kanye West has just posted a long rant about his performance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival which had fans angrily throwing stuff on stage after he went on really late. He says “I am sick of negative people who just sit around trying 2 plot my downfall… Why???? I understand if people don’t like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much, But this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I’ve ever had in my life. This is the most offended I’ve ever been… this is the maddest I ever will be. I’m typing so fucking hard I might break my fucking Mac book Air!!!!!!!! Call me any name you want…. arrogant, conceited, narcissistic, racist, metro whatever you can think of…. BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN’T GIVE MY ALL!” And I’m going to stop at that because all the caps are dangerous to anyone’s eyes. After that last line, everything was written in caps. He’s mad people.

The Wino Beat Goes On

Amy Winehouse may be in a fragile state but that’s not going to stop her from playing Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday Concert on Friday as well as attending Glastonbury. The British media is reporting that Wino will go on stage with an ambulance crew on standby at the gigs. I hope this is not true. While it’s admirable to not let your supporters down, she should really focus on her health first. Concert organizers are even looking to outfit her backstage area like a private hospital suite complete with massage table and paramedics. If you ask me, she should have just stayed in the hospital where she can get proper care.

Newton Faulkner – “Gone in the Morning”

Newton Faulkner, goes into summer 2008 with the release of his latest single ‘Gone in the Morning’ on July 7th through Ugly Truth Records.

A massive live favorite ‘Gone in the Morning’ is the perfect summer anthem-in-waiting, ideal for beach, picnic or garden with its infectious chorus, supersharp vocals and rolling bassline.

‘Gone in the Morning’ is the latest track to be taken from Newton’s spectacularly successful Number One & Double Platinum debut album, ‘Hand Built By Robots’, which has so far sold 700,000 copies in the UK alone.

23 year old Newton has also started spreading the word globally with his first North American and European live dates - a highlight being an especially exciting performance that took place in a hot air balloon high over the Swiss Alps. Meanwhile his recent US sell-out shows have been watched by none other than Kings of Leon (in Nashville) and Scarlett Johansson (NYC).

After a series of successful festival shows in 2007, Newton comes back to play bigger stages at several key UK festivals this summer including Glastonbury (Other and Acoustic stages), Isle of Wight Festival, T in the Park and V 2008. He also plays various international festivals including Oxygen in Ireland and Lollapalooza & Bonnaroo in the US.

A genuine British grass roots success story, Newton is a true DIY phenomenon with Myspace plays now approaching an amazing 2.5 million.

A Model’s Gene Jacket

Supermodel/pop star cartoon character Jem might have been reincarnated in Agyness Deyn. A British music magazine, NME, is reporting that the model loved collaborating with the band Five O’Clock Heroes so much that she has formed her own band called Gene Jacket. Agyness said “We’ve got three or four songs, we wrote a really cool song at Coachella actually, which was exciting. It’s called ‘Hotel’. Well we originally wrote and recorded it in Japan, then added bits at the festival. It sounds like The Vaselines, maybe like Animal Collective. Just sounds, experimenting with stuff.” Her solo stuff sounded quite good so I’m expecting to hear some good stuff from her band too.

Kylie Minogue Headlines Glastonbury

This is some unexpected news but it’s some very welcome unexpected news. Kylie Minogue has just been named as a headliner at the Glastonbury Music Festival in the UK this coming summer. The Australian singer will join previously announced artists that Jay-Z and Neil Diamond who were also reported to be headlining the festivities. That’s a very interesting line up. Let’s just hope that it doesn’t rain again much like it did last year. Rolling around in the mud while Kylie is on stage isn’t really something I see concertgoers enjoying. I wonder who else is going to join in on the festivities.

Rihanna’s NRJ Awards Performance

Rihanna performed her latest hit song ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ at the 2008 NRJ Music Awards where she also picked up the award for International Song of the Year. The Barbados babe worked her magic in fluorescent tank tops and plaid skinny jeans. There’s also some amazing choreography from a bunch of break dancers. Now that is how you bring down the house and bring it down rocking. Everyone knows that 2007 was Rihanna’s year but it looks like 2008 is still going to be going to her. There’s absolutely no beating her – not even by Janet Jackson. Rihanna is queen!
