The Dream Caught Cheating

Just months after his baby was born, The Dream was caught canoodling with a fine young lady in the Caribbean. The only problem is, the girl wasn’t his wife Christina Milian but his personal assistant. The singer took to her Twitter to set the record straight about any rumors that have started up about her rapper/producer man and it doesn’t look good. Christina said “WHATEVER YOU THINK.. BELIEVE IT.” Poor thing. Hey, at least when divorce comes knocking, the court is likely to side with her since she’s got proof of infidelity. Milk him for everything that he’s got! You deserve that much and so much more.

Eminem Still on Top

For the second week in a row, Eminem’s new album ‘Recovery’ is at the top spot on the Billboard 200. The album has sold 1.1 million copies within the past two weeks. The rapper is also making a killing on the Digital Song charts. His single ‘Love the Way You Lie’, which features the vocal styles of Barbadian singer Rihanna, is also standing strong at the number one spot for the second week. And to think that I wrote him off a long time ago – guess who’s back now? Congratulations to Eminem for achieving success even after everything he’s been through.

Jay-Z Gets Cancelled

Jay-Z was supposed to perform above the marquee at the Ed Sullivan Theater for The Late Show with David Letterman today but the Mayor had the gig cancelled. On the heels of the chaos that was Drake and Hanson’s free concert at South Street Seaport, the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting is afraid to let the show go on as planned. The show was supposed to be a secret but word got out and the Mayor’s office is using that as the excuse to cancel the rapper’s performance. A rep from the office said “Many permits are granted on the condition that the event is not made public beforehand for capacity and security reasons. This event was made public.”

Another Lil Wayne Lawsuit

As if things couldn’t get worse for Lil Wayne, the rapper has once again been slapped with a lawsuit for failing to pay royalties. Producer Shondrae Crawford, the mastermind behind Lil Wayne’s 2007 hit single ‘A Milli’ is suing the rapper and his record company Cash Money for unpaid royalties, claiming that he’s owed $500,000. He said “Cash Money don’t pay royalties. (Wayne’s 2008 album) Tha Carter III (is) his biggest album probably because of A Milli. You have to sue these guys so that they pay up…All the money from album sales goes to Cash Money. I get checks from Sony for Beyonce, checks from different labels for different artists, it just comes to you. You don’t have to call them, sue them and all that junk. This is what you’re owed.” Lil Wayne is facing a similar lawsuit from producer Jim Jonsin.

Diddy Pays a Visit to Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne is currently locked up in jail on a gun possession conviction. The rapper got a famous visitor last week when entertainment mogul Diddy pulled in to Rikers Island Jail on the mandatory public bus for visitors. The rapper/actor/entrepreneur was on a pre-approved list and chatted with his fellow rap star for about an hour. I wonder what they talked about. Diddy himself escaped jail time when he was found not guilty of a weapons possession charge in 1999. Maybe he was giving Lil Wayne some advice on how to hide guns better for next time. I wonder if he’ll be coming around again any time soon.

Lil Wayne Lawsuit

Times are certainly getting tougher and tougher for Lil Wayne. The rapper, who is currently serving time in prison, was just slapped with a $500,000 lawsuit by producer Jim Jonsin. Jim claims that he hasn’t seen a cent in royalties for his contribution to Lil Wayne’s hit single ‘Lollipop’. I hope that the rap artist settles this quickly. The last thing he needs is more legal trouble. The poor guy just can’t seem to catch a break. Jail time, album postponements, lawsuits – what could be next? Could anything worse come his way? I hope not. I don’t think he deserves that kind of punishment.

Nicki Minaj is Ready

In a recent interview with Spin magazine, rapper Nicki Minaj spoke about how to handle yourself in the entertainment industry. The hip hop star said “It bothers me when people take themselves too seriously. It’s like, loosen the fuck up. At the end of the day, this is entertainment. We should be entertained. I’ve gone through the ‘12-Step Hip-Hop Program’: the mixtapes, the DVDs, the low-budget videos, the small shows. I thank God that I wasn’t signed years ago and that I didn’t have a hit record before I did the grind. I’m ready now.” But after backing out of a worldwide tour with Rihanna and Ke$ha and firing her manager, I’m not so sure.

MIA Bashes Lady Gaga

MIA recently gave some very candid opinions to NME regarding Lady Gaga. The rapper talks about the princess of pop when asked if she thinks that programs and the internet have destroyed the mythology around pop stars. MIA said “I don’t know. Again, there’s Lady Gaga – people say we’re similar, that we both mix all these things in the pot and spit them out differently, but she spits it out exactly the same! None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I fucking do! That’s a talent and she’s got a great team behind her, but she’s the industry last stab at making itself important – saying, ‘You need our money behind you, the endorsements, the stadiums’ Respect to her, she’s keeping a hundred thousand people in work, but my belief is: Do It Yourself.”

Snoop Dogg Discovers Street Talent

Who needs a big reality TV show competition when Snoop Dogg can discover some new talent on the streets of New York? Two random high school students hit up the rapper outside the Eldridge lounge on the Lower East Side and one of them handed over an iPod version of a resume. Snoop listened to the kid’s original music and was so impressed that he ordered his manager to get the boy’s contact info. For the boy’s sake, let’s hope he got contacted and that Snoop didn’t just get his hopes up. But then again, Snoop has been doing wonders with kids.

New Music from TI

He may still be working his way through a halfway house but rapper TI knows that he wants to get right back into the music business as soon as all of his prison and criminal stuff finally gets sorted out and done with. The rapper and convicted felon recently released a new single, aptly called ‘I’m Back’. If you’ve already heard of it, what do you think? Is TI back or does he need to get his stuff sorted out just a little more before he attempts to make new music again? I give kudos to him for giving it a good try though.

Lil Wayne is in Jail

Lil Wayne arrived in Rikers Island jail in New York and even while being transported there, it seems that he’s been getting some special treatment. The rapper was actually transported in a corrections van all by himself since he was considered a high profile inmate. Where was the whole promise of him being treated like other inmates? Last I heard, he was still undergoing the admissions procedure including physical and mental health exams and a questionnaire. It’s still unknown whether or not Lil Wayne will be with other inmates or if he’ll be given his own cell. He better be on his best behavior either way.

New MIA

Get ready because we may be hearing new music from MIA sooner than expected. The female rapper posted some sort of cryptic messages on her Twitter last week regarding a new album. MIA wrote “BANNED FROM LEAVING THE U.S, FAMILY BANNED FROM COMING TO U.S TO SEE ME , BABY, RECORDING LP, SIGNING THE DOPEST ACTS THATS HITTIN 2010. JUNE 2010. I THINK IM READY.” I know that she had a baby boy and was doing all that fun stuff but I think it’s about time that she return to the music scene. It’s been almost three years! I’m so excited for this one!

Lil Wayne Goes to the Dentist

Lil Wayne recently underwent eight root canals at one time in order to get his pearly whites prison-ready. Within the 8 hours it took for the procedure, the rapper and felon also got several tooth implants redone, added a few more and repaired the last remaining real teeth he has left. The dental surgery was enough to keep his butt out of jail to serve his sentence for gun possession until March 2. A bit of advice to everyone reading this, brush your teeth regularly and don’t carry unlicensed firearms around all the time. You wouldn’t want to be like Lil Wayne now would you?

50 Cent Gets Hit by Recession

Rapper 50 Cent has revealed that even he has been hit by the recession by losing a few million from his fortune. He says that he had to change some of his spending habits, mainly his constant need for new jewellery. He said “I buy diamonds on a very regular basis, but now I am selling my old stuff before I get something new. These are times when you learn about the value of money. If you don’t lose money in this recession, it means you didn’t have enough to start off with. Sure, I lost a few million, but that’s because I have so much. This is a time that will sort out the strong from the weak.” He’s so confident in his money-handling that he even says that President Obama can call him for any financial advice.

50 Cent Gets Another Movie Deal

Most people are familiar with the classic tale of Dr. Jekyll who creates a potion that transforms his into his younger and more violent alter ego Mr. Hyde. The concept has been done lots of times in movies but we can now look forward to seeing two new faces to bring the story to life. Forest Whitaker and 50 Cent have been recently cast in the roles, the notable actor as Dr. Jekyll and the rapper as Mr. Hyde. I’m not sure if I can get behind this. It’s been done numerous times and while I know Forest will bring something to the table, I think it’ll be overshadowed by 50 just plainly sucking.

Jay-Z Apologizes

I’m sure people still remember the hullaballoo back in April 2008 when Beyonce and Jay-Z had their secret wedding. Apparently, it was such a secret that many people weren’t even invited. The rapper explains that only a select few were honored enough to have gotten invitations to the nuptials, including the likes of Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and Gwyneth Paltrow. But the snub actually got some people’s feelings hurt. Jay-Z said “The sad part is that we offended some. But people who love you understand. Because at the end of the day, it’s your day.” Is this really that important to discuss a year after the fact?

Charges on Jay-Z’s Bodyguard Tossed

Just like the tripod that ended up getting tossed into the sea, the charges against Jay-Z’s bodyguard have officially been thrown out. Law enforcement sources from Croatia say that there will be no jail time for the rapper’s hired muscle, who previously had assault and destroying personal property charges filed against him after a tussle with a local reporter last week. The bodyguard will have to pay a fine though but we’re told that the police will not pursue any other legal action. Isn’t that a bit unfair considering it was the photographer who through the tripod at the bodyguard in the first place?

Kanye West Raps Against Press

Kanye West recently absorbed himself in a freestyle rap in New York City as he went off against TMZ for the confrontation at LAX where he smashed the news site’s camera light to the ground and his bodyguard broke a still camera last year. The rapper has been charged with criminal battery, vandalism and grand theft. During the show, he sang “Who doesn’t think it’s illegal, TMZ? And I have to pay $100,000 to the photographer that said I broke his arm, but I was just breaking your f**king camera, I wasn’t tryin’ do you no harm.” Not only was the rant a bad move given that there are charges pending but TMZ also claims that he’s wrong because they have yet to receive any money.

Eminem Talks Bruno

Over a week since the much talked about tea bagging incident, Eminem is speaking out about the stunt at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards involving himself and Sacha Baron Cohen’s character Bruno. In an interview with Rap Radar, the rapper confirmed that it was all staged, saying “Sacha called me when we were in Europe and he had an idea to do something outrageous at the Movie Awards. I’m a big fan of his work so I agreed to get involved with the gag. I’m thrilled that we pulled this off better than we rehearsed it. It had so many people going “nuts” so to speak. Everyone was blowing me up about it.”
