Rihanna hit the stage with a performance of ‘It’s Your Life’ at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards which was held at Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles last weekend. She may not have won as many awards as I would have liked but she took to the stage two times. That definitely made it up for me. Rihanna also took advantage of the dramatic stage sets and made two very memorable performances. When did you ever see an artist take the stage twice in an awards show when there were a lot of very capable performers in the crowd? It looks like everybody wanted to see more of Rihanna than the average awards show crowd.

13 of the world’s most famous female singers of this day pose with song creators/producers LA Reid and Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds at Fashion Rocks to sing the song ‘Just Stand Up’, the worldwide charity single which benefits Stand Up 2 Cancer. Keyshia Cole, Leona Lewis, Fergie, Ciara, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J Blige, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Miley Cyrus, Ashanti, Nicole Scherzinger and Natasha Bedingfield are all decked out in their black Stand Up To Cancer t-shirts. The group said in its mission statement that “For the first time we can envision the possibility of stopping cancer in its tracks. But just when science is on the verge of giving us the breakthroughs that can end cancer, the will and the funding to do so are disappearing from the national agenda and from our collective consciousness.”

Rihanna and Chris Brown will be heading to New Zealand next month for a couple of performances at Auckland’s Vector Arena and Wellington’s TSB Arena. The tour then heads over to Australia. This marks the first performances for either singer in these countries and the first time they have held a joint concert. What, they can’t tour without their significant other now? Regarding the concerts, Rihanna says “I think it’s whack if you tell people what you’re going to do on set because then nobody has the interest in coming to see it. It’s all about not knowing what to expect. I don’t want to give away my show … Just expect Chris is gonna be there!”

Rihanna caught a private screening of Paramount Pictures’ ‘Tropic Thunder’ at the Regal Cinemas theatre in New York City’s Times Square on Tuesday night. The 20-year old Barbadian singer was accompanied by a couple of her girlfriends and her bodyguard. She arrived just before the movie started and left before the ending credits finished. That’s some shady behavior. She wasn’t with Chris Brown anyway. She could have at least showed her face to some fans. Or maybe she was rushing home to Chris because she went out to watch a movie without him. It was probably supposed to be their date night.

Rihanna was on The Today Show in New York City’s Rockefeller Center on Friday. She was there to perform her songs ‘Umbrella’, ‘Please Don’t Stop the Music’ and ‘Take A Bow’. In between songs, she also talked about being the official ambassador for her home country of Barbados. The 20-year old singer says “I am the official ambassador for cultural youth, which is perfect for me because I love dealing with young people. Barbados will always be home. They’re very, very supportive. They’re my backbone. It’s where I started. I couldn’t ask for a better place to grow up in.â€

A dateless Rihanna, or at least looking dateless, sizzled on the red carpet at the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards which was held at the Chum/City Building on Sunday in Toronto, Canada. The 20-year old R&B singer was awarded the first trophy of the night, Best International Video for her single ‘Don’t Stop the Music’. The Barbadian babe also won an MMVA for the MuchMusic.com Most Watched Video award for her smash hit ‘Umbrella’. Rihanna won both awards that she was nominated for. Congratulations! Now where exactly was your boyfriend when you were off cleaning house at awards shows? Where’s the support?

Rihanna made the world premiere of her latest single ‘Take a Bow’ on Friday morning on Ryan Seacrest’s ‘On Air’ radio show on 102.7 KIIS FM Los Angeles. The song is about a break up with the girl just being spiteful and pitying on the guy. Much like Rihanna’s previous singles, let’s hope this one becomes a hit too. Let’s make 2008 her year as well. I’m just hoping that the song’s subject doesn’t happen to her though. Despite still not admitting it, everyone already knows that she and R&B crooner Chris Brown are dating. I’m hoping they last. They look cute together.

Rihanna’s hit song ‘Umbrella’ has been covered by so many artists that it has to have taken the title of being the most covered song since Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’. Practically everyone has done their version of the Barbadian singer’s instant classic – whether they be in rock, pop, classical or even country! Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban are the latest to take part in the craze as they actually do a duet of the song during their concerts. You can’t blame anyone for the covers though. The song is good, it’s catchy and it’s versatile. Almost nothing can go wrong with that – unless of course Heidi Montag decides to make a duet with Rihanna too.

Everyone pretty much knows that Rihanna and Chris Brown have a ‘very special’ relationship but when asked if she’s dating Chris, Rihanna is hell-bent on denying it. In an interview with the UK’s Fabulous magazine, the 20-year Barbadian signer is flat-out asked if she’s dating the 18-year old R&B crooner. Her response was “I’m single. If a good guy comes along we’ll make it work, but for now I’m having fun being a single woman.”
Oh well. Beyonce and Jay-Z dated for years before they came out with the truth. I guess she’s just playing with the new rules of dating in the business.

Rihanna kept it young and fresh in a shiny silver Dolce & Gabbana dress at the 2008 Brit Awards which was held at Earls Court in London on Wednesday. I’m still not that much into her choice of clothes for the red carpet but at the very least, this is better than the last couple of red carpet looks she’s had.
The Barbados singer performed on the show by teaming up with an unlikely partner in the form of British band Klaxons. They teamed up for a mash-up of her hit song ‘Umbrella’ and their song ‘Golden Skans’. With the number of ‘Umbrella’ renditions, she has to make hers different every time.

Rihanna celebrated her 20th birthday with a cupcake fight. Classy huh?
The ‘Umbrella’ singer, who doesn’t turn 20 until next Wednesday, was partying with friends including Kanye West and actor Wilmer Valderrama at Los Angeles’ Les Deux nightclub when the food fight began on Tuesday night.
An onlooker said: “There was cupcake frosting all over Rihanna’s face and the group was hysterically laughing to the point of almost tears!” Chris Brown, who is rumoured to be dating Rihanna, was later given a standing ovation after he sang her an acapella version of ‘Happy Birthday’.
Despite Chris insisting he and Rihanna are “just friends”, onlookers at the exclusive club said the pair were “cuddling and acting very cosy all night”. The couple also attended the Grammys together last weekend and stocked up on goody bags.
When they realised they might be photographed together, Chris insisted they should leave. A Grammys source said: “Chris was telling her they needed to go, and in seconds they were gone.”

Rihanna is the latest celebrity to sport the milk mustache and asks the question of ‘got milk?’. The Barbados singer encourages teens to drink 3 glasses of low fat or fat free milk everyday and to eat right to stay lean and healthy. Her ad will officially debut on February 5 in Teen Vogue. The ad copy reads: “Drink it in. Pop star? Not exactly. Milk is more my move. Some studies suggest that teens who choose milk instead of sugary drinks tend to be leaner and the protein helps build muscle. So shut up and drink.”

Rihanna performed her latest hit song ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ at the 2008 NRJ Music Awards where she also picked up the award for International Song of the Year. The Barbados babe worked her magic in fluorescent tank tops and plaid skinny jeans. There’s also some amazing choreography from a bunch of break dancers. Now that is how you bring down the house and bring it down rocking. Everyone knows that 2007 was Rihanna’s year but it looks like 2008 is still going to be going to her. There’s absolutely no beating her – not even by Janet Jackson. Rihanna is queen!

Rihanna changed from her shining green dress on the red carpet to a very supportive strapless black dress complete with poofy polka skirt when she took the stage to perform at the 2007 World Music Award in Monte Carlo, Monaco on Sunday.
I’m sure that after her performance, the Barbados-born beauty took some time to thank the heavens that she did not have any wardrobe malfunctions. Although, I think that the likes of Prince Albert of Monaco was hoping for that as the principality was snapped taking a good look at what Rihanna had to offer.
On a different note, congratulations goes to Rihanna for picking up the award for World’s Best Selling Pop Female Artist.

Oh Britney. You have given us yet another performance where you lipsynch, and badly, while wearing as little as possible, to a song no one will remember in six months. This is nothing new, and sadly, it’s actually worse than ever. Maybe now is time to embrace the fact that talent is actually a necessity when attempting a singing career. Shocking though it may be, some actually enjoy singers who can, well, sing well. You might look into a career more fitting to your needs; should anyone need an unintelligent, burnt out, baby dropping train wreck, I am sure you will be the first person they call. This was actually the best thing you could have done; you have finally put an end to your career. Thank you MTV. This is even better than when you canceled the Tom Green show. Justin Timberlake shouted upon accepting the inaugural Moon Man trophy for Quadruple Threat of the Year, one of four new hyperbolically titled honors handed out in lieu of standards like Best R&B or Best Hip-Hop Video. Timberlake was also named the VMAs’ Male Artist of the Year.

Rihanna limped around painfully with the help of crutches as she shopped around and even treated her injured self to ice cream in Los Angeles on Wednesday. She fashionably moved around with one of those huge orthopedic boots. Her reps are saying that she injured herself as she bumped into a chair.
A chair? What was the chair made off, reinforced steel?
No. I think the story is that Beyonce pushed her off the stairs and had her minions attack Rihanna. That story is far more believable than that chair one. Eh, just kidding. But still, it’s more interesting than a chair. How clumsy is Rihanna to have injured herself that bad from a chair?

After a record-breaking two and a half months at the top of the UK singles charts, Rihanna’s hit song ‘Umbrella’ has finally given up the top spot to a new song. Her time at the pole position is the longest that a single has been at #1 in over a decade.
The song that replaced ‘Umbrella’ was another hip-hop tune cranked out by Timbaland entitled ‘The Way I Are’. Let’s see if one of the biggest mix masters in the music world today can match, or maybe even do better, than the 19-year old Rihanna. Nevertheless, I still can’t get ‘Umbrella’ out of my head.

R&B singer Rihanna has scored the longest-running number one single in a decade after claiming a 10th week at the top of the UK chart.
Umbrella becomes the first song since Wet Wet Wet’s Love Is All Around in 1994 to spend more than nine weeks in pole position on the countdown.
Frankie Laine’s I Believe holds the record, with 18 weeks on top in 1953.
Tenor and Britain’s Got Talent Winner Paul Potts entered the album chart at number one with his debut One Chance.
The 36-year-old former mobile phone salesman, who was signed by Simon Cowell after winning the ITV1 show, displaced rock band The Enemy from the top of the charts.
Behind Rihanna - only the seventh artist in the history of the chart to reach a 10th week - was Kate Nash, Timbaland, Fergie and Enrique Iglesias.
Mark Ronson’s cover of Kaiser Chiefs’ hit Oh My God - with vocals by Lily Allen, climbed into the top 10 at number eight.
Amy McDonald, Mika and Biffy Clyro all climbed up the chart into the top 20, while the cast of High School Musical 2 scored a new entry with What Time Is It at 20.

It seems like Rihanna can do no wrong. The ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ singer knows exactly what she’s doing as she pleased the Japanese crowd with her performance at the Tokyo leg of the Live Earth concert series.
Live Earth was launched by former US Vice President Al Gore to combat global warming. And what better way to bring awareness to the forefront by having some of the biggest and brightest stars show their support?
I don’t know whether Rihanna was able to pass the message along, but it didn’t hurt to have to watch the beautiful lady do her thing.
