Sources are saying that another Spice Girl is working on a solo album and that Spice Girl happens to be Mel B. A release date and a record label have yet to be finalized and named but the artist famously known as Scary has already begun working with some of the biggest producers in the biz. An insider says that “Mel is going for a pop sound with a bit of an urban edge.†Her choice of collaborators reflect that as the list includes Scott Storch, Damon Elliot, JR Rotem, Richie Skillz and Rodney Jerkins. With all the talent associated with those names, her album sounds promising already.

The fantastic KT Tunstall has announced two concerts as part of the Forestry Commission’s forest tour this summer.
The past 3 years have been a hectic time for KT Tunstall as she has become established as a phenomenally successful artist both sides of the Atlantic. Her debut album ‘Eye To The Telescope’ has sold over 4 million copies to date including over 1.5 million in the UK alone.
Critical acclaim includes a Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist, The Ivor Novello Best Song award for writing ‘Suddenly I See’ and a Q award for Track of the Year for ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’. Chart success continues with the release of her latest album ‘Drastic Fantastic’ including the hit singles ‘Saving My Face’ and ‘Hold On’.
KT, who is extremely committed to green issues, has signed up to the GlobalCool campaign and even has her own 6,000-strong forest of trees in Scotland. These concerts will be supporting the Forestry Commission’s valuable social and environmental programmes.

Nicole Scherzinger is about to come out with her solo album. Actually, it was supposed to come out long ago but it just wasn’t cutting it so they had to push back the release.
Either way, the other girls in the Pussycat Dolls must hate her right now. It’s not so much about her going solo but more because of what she said in an interview about working on a new PCD album. She sounded less than enthusiastic when she said “For me, I’m excited to do my stuff, because sometimes less is more. Right now I’m going to focus strictly on ‘Her Name Is Nicole’, but when the time is right, we have some PCD fans out there so we’ll maybe do another Pussycat Dolls album.”Kill!

Shaggy uses “Intoxication” to once again show that while he and his crew can crank out solid pop, they can match it with cuts that genuinely rock the dancehall. The thing is, everyone knows he can do pop. What he needs to do now is just crank out a full disc of bangers. It’s the point proved by his new album’s boastful opening track, “Can’t Hold Me,” and the raunchy rhythm driving the sexy title song. The foundation of the disc is aimed at the airwaves, and a few songs could easily see chart action. Most are collaborations, like the Rik Rok vehicle “Bonafide Girl” (which lifts the guitar part from Desmond Dekker’s “007 Shanty Town”). But best is “Mad Mad World.” With Sizzla’s soulful hook strewn over a Dre-worthy beat and head-nodding rhymes, it’s a fusion of both sides of Shaggy.

It seems like Akon is inescapable today. His most recent solo hits “Smack That” and “I Wanna Love You” spent multiple weeks simultaneously in the top 10, and Akon has a flashy guest appearance on Gwen Stefani’s current top 10 hit “The Sweet Escape.” Unfortunately, too often Akon’s music utilizes easy gimmicks to gain attention. This moves the song quickly up the chart but doesn’t wear well with listeners. Fortunately, “Don’t Matter” is largely lacking in gimmickry and lingers longer in the brain’s music pleasure centers.
Fortunately, “Don’t Matter,” finding Akon in an even more laidback ballad mood than his makeout tune “I Wanna Love You,” is devoid of gimmicks and annoying hooks. Akon’s pleasing voice, both singing and rapping, is showcased over a laidback groove. Lyrically the words of defiant, committed love in the face of disapproval will strike a chord with many pop fans. Stick with the song all the way through and you’ll be rewarded with a percussive party section at the end that will put a smile on your face and might even make you move.
“Don’t Matter” is likely to help maintain Akon’s string of weeks with 2 singles in the pop top 10. It is nearly assured of joining “The Sweet Escape” making Akon’s sweet tenor continue to seem ubiquitous on pop radio.

There’s only one Justin Timberlake in the world and the rest of NSync knows it, especially JC Chasez. The former Nsync member and aspiring solo artist has just been drooped by his record label Jive Records. But he was trying to downplay it at the Us Weekly Hot Hollywood last Wednesday night by saying that he and the company mutually parted ways.
USA Today was able to get an interview with him where he was quoted, “It’s show business, but right now it’s business, show. I have some material that I want to get out and it’s about timing and all that other stuff, but I have a great record coming out.”
I feel sorry for the guy. He’s hard at work and gets dropped but lunatics like Britney are still with the label. Pfft.

You have got to be kidding me. Is this all we get from the girl who was poised to be the next Beyonce or Jennifer Lopez? When it comes down to it, Nicole Scherzinger or Pussycat Dolls fame just didn’t cut it. She had the world in the palm of her hand and her pick of the best producers but she still failed. Too bad.
Nicole recently released the video for her second single ‘Baby Love’ off of her solo album ‘Her Name is Nicole’. Not only is the video quite a bore and overproduced but it’s also lacking in the emotion department. It’s a love song. Why would it not have any emotion in it?
The song and the video are okay. But come on! We’re all expecting so much more!

It doesn’t matter which side of the Atlantic you’re on, you will always have love for Justin Timberlake. Albert Hammond Jr., guitarist of band The Strokes, is all set up to write a screenplay. The band will take a year off entertainment but this member (who already launched a debut solo album called “Yours to Keep”) will not take it easy. His writing effort is a set play adapted after “Pulp” by Charles Bukowski. It is a book that revolves around a private investigator and is characterized by Albert Hammond Jr. as “an adult comedy-dark”.
The guitarist got the thumbs up from the author’s widow and everything should be finalized after a studio is contracted. Other details have not been released. The only thing that is known is what he told press:
“I wouldn’t want someone to ruin my script. I don’t think they’d let me direct but I’d want to be somewhere in the picture like that.”
Maybe we will see him as a director, who knows? I read the book and it is pretty interesting. I just hope the screenplay will be good as well.
