Britney Spears’ latest single ‘3’ from her upcoming collection ‘The Singles’ has debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart! The pop singer is the first artist in over three years to debut at the top spot. The last one to have done that was American Idol winner Taylor Hicks with ‘Do I Make You Proud’ from 2006. This is also Britney’s third time at the top of mountain on the Billboard Hot 100. ‘…Baby One More Time’ was at the number one spot in 1999 and ‘Womanizer’ ruled just last year. It looks like three is the lucky number for her. Congratulations!

Lady Gaga was at the Billboard Women in Music event in New York City last Friday to receive the Rising Star Award when she decided to talk about the cancellation of her joint tour with Kanye West. The singer said “It was a mutual decision. Kanye’s going to take some time off. But the good news is that I’m going on tour in a few weeks.” The rapper should just admit it that he’s still reeling from the backlash he got from that VMA incident involving Taylor Swift. He definitely needs some serious time off from being in the spotlight.

“Over You” (3 stars) — delivers “shiny heartbreak that splits the difference between *NSYNC and Maroon 5 - all riffing synths… and tunefulness.”
Entertainment Weekly
Honor Society are “crafty pop rock dudes” with songs that “shimmer with freeze-dried funk licks…”
People Magazine
“…fans will likely swoon over …” whose “strongest tracks include the power ballads ‘Where Are You Now’ and ‘Goodnight My Love’ both showcasing Bruno’s emotive tenor. ‘My Own Way’ is an infectious pop-rocker.”

Jay-Z’s new album, ‘The Blueprint 3’, hit the number one spot on the Billboard 200 charts this past week by selling over 476,000 copies. That’s not unusual for the rapper though considering that his new album makes it his 11th album to hit the top of the mountain. Mind you, that also makes him the most successful solo artist since Elvis Presley! It’s a good thing that he didn’t follow through with his retirement. I don’t think many people can accomplish that kind of feat and be able to say that they are as good, or probably better, than Elvis. And if Jay-Z wants to be the best of all time, he just needs 8 more number ones to tie with The Beatles.

BAND ANNOUNCES EUROPEAN TOUR DATES

The riff-driven track appears on the band’s highly anticipated new album, Black Gives Way To Blue (Virgin/EMI), available September 29th. The economy may be in the crapper but the American Idols are doing just fine. The Idols Live tour has consistently sold 82% of its tickets and grossed $11.2 million, fairing with last year’s sales. That’s extremely impressive considering that tickets range between $40.50 to $69.50, which runs a dollar higher than last year’s prices. Billboard senior touring editor Ray Waddell commented on this saying “40% of tickets go unsold. They’re doing better than average” especially since “these are baby acts on their first national tour, even if they’ve had the best exposure you can get.” A former Idol blogger also gave his two cents saying “The Adam Lambert fan base is incredibly avid. That dedication is what sells tickets.”

Brooke Hogan’s album ‘The Redemption’ has debuted on the Billboard 200 charts last week. But before you faint in surprise, the wannabe singer is actually lucky that she got on the chart at all. If there was ever a pathetic showing on a debut week, hers would be it. She came in at #144 with 3,381 copies sold. That’s just sad. I just hope that it would put an end to the madness known as her music career. That, or I’m just going to keep hoping that Hulk Hogan runs out of money so he can’t bribe anyone to give his daughter another chance or to buy the albums himself.

When your music is universal, it’s going to live on forever. That’s the case with the music performed by the late King of Pop Michael Jackson. In spite of his sudden death, his music lives on in his absence by receiving a lot of radio airplay. It should come as no surprise that the singer has returned to the top of the Billboard charts. Industry experts say that three of the singer’s albums, ‘Number Ones’, ‘The Essential Michael Jackson’, and ‘Thriller’ each sold around 100,000 in the past week. All 3 titles will be the top 3 albums on Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog chart and Michael may secure anywhere from 6 to 9 slots in the tally’s top 10 with some of his other albums.

Black Eyed Peas ‘The E.N.D.’ Lands At #1 On The Billboard 200 Chart
Black Eyed Peas’ “The E.N.D.” bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 304,000 — the hip-pop act’s best sales week ever. It’s also the first No. 1 album for the group, which had previously gone as high as No. 2. Its last set, 2005’s “Monkey Business,” bowed in the runner-up slot with a then-best 291,000. It had the unfortunate luck to come out the same week as Coldplay’s “X&Y,” which kept the Peas’ at bay when it started at No. 1 with 737,000. -via Billboard.com

For the seventh nonconsecutive week, Taylor Swift’s album has been at the number one spot on the Billboard 200. The country singing sweetheart’s album has now become the longest running number one album by a solo female artist since Alanis Morissette and her 1995 record ‘Jagged Little Pill’. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Taylor’s ‘Fearless’ sold 63,000 copies during the last week and has sold 2.3 million so far. Beyonce just can’t seem to pass Taylor. She’s currently the runner up with ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’ selling 49,000 copies. That was a good week for Beyonce but it just wasn’t good enough to beat Taylor.

Taylor Swift has the number 1 album in America once again. For the sixth consecutive week, the country singing sweetheart has taken control of the top spot on the Billboard 200. Her album is now the first to spend six weeks at the top since the 2005 release of rapper 50 Cent ‘The Massacre’. Taylor seems to be enjoying her time at the top. The talented singer is guest starring on ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’. She’s playing Haley Jones, a dark teen whose family runs some little motel in Vegas. That explains the dark hair and alternative look. It looks good on her.

Taylor Swift can now stop having to make digs about ex-boyfriends just so she could get some attention as she has just beaten Joe Jonas’ butt by topping the US Billboard charts with her second album ‘Fearless’ which sold over 592,000 copies in its debut week. That means that Taylor has one of the biggest opening week sales in 2008 by a female artist. She’s also the fourth biggest overall coming behind Lil Wayne, AC/DC and Coldplay. Taylor also managed to beat the Jonas Brothers on the charts as their latest album sold about 525,000 on its first week. Taylor is getting geared up for global domination as well as her album will be released worldwide early next year.
