Glee Goes Gold

The ‘Glee’ cast recording of Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ has been certified gold after being downloaded over half a million times. And that’s just the legal downloads. With their tracks selling big time on iTunes, it was bound to happen sooner or later anyway. Actress Lea Michele talked about it saying “The great thing about our show is that some of the songs that we do sound very close to the original and others are completely re-done and ‘mashed up.’ It’s great that we’ve brought these old songs back and we’ve put a new twist to them, while still honoring the amazing songs that they are. Matthew Morrison added “I feel like we’re revitalizing the music industry. The younger generation hears songs they never heard before through our show. And I’ll be bold as to say that I think some of the records we’re doing are even better than the originals.”

Chris Brown Works His Way Back to the Scene

Chris Brown has slowly been working his way back into the music world. The 20-year old R&B singer’s recent single ‘I Can Transform Ya’ featuring Lil Wayne has been doing well and his 2008 hit ‘Forever’ managed to work its way back to the top spot on the iTunes R&B chart. A new single called ‘So Cold’ was also just leaked onto the internet earlier this week and Chris went on his Twitter to talk about it saying “OMG as you all know a song leaked today from my album called so cold.. im a lil upset but i pray my album doesnt leak..” I hope it does so no one has to buy it and his album will be a sales flop.

Exclusive Premiere of Tokio Hotel’s Humanoid on Myspace

tokio-hotel
Head over to Tokio Hotel’s Myspace for an exclusive listen of their album Humanoid. The first single, “Automatic” is a metallic anthem with layered, buzzing guitars, stomping percussion, and a falsetto chorus made to be belted out by a stadium full of people while “World Behind My Wall” redefines the power ballad with depth, introspection, musical confidence and an irresistible sing-along chorus. The band tracked songs in Hamburg, Miami, and L.A. “Bill drove us all crazy, constantly coming in with things, even though the old songs weren’t finished yet,” says Tom, who’s fond of frequently ribbing his brother. “Apart from that, we just didn’t limit ourselves, and we used new instruments.”

The album does not hit stores until tomorrow, but the band is streaming all 12 tracks from the standard version until midnight. Like what you hear? Preorder the sci-fi themed release on iTunes now.

MTV VMAs Pumped Up Music Sales

It’s been a long time since I found myself able to say this but MTV is actually driving music sales up! While the public’s reaction to Kanye West’s behavior during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech seems to be the most talked about stunt at this year’s VMAs, the music itself is also getting some recognition. All of the performers at the show are seeing a huge increase in their music sales including Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Jay-Z, Pink and Taylor, whose iTunes sales went up by 80%. British band Muse also performed for the first time on American TV and the sale of their album skyrocketed as a result of the VMAs.

Heidi Montag Makes a Good Song

Every once in a while we stumble upon a song that Heidi Montag has leaked that doesn’t actually suck. Most of her music is pretty generic at best but ‘The Hills’ star has recently put out an EP on iTunes and surprisingly, there’s two songs on there that are very likeable. The songs are ‘Your Love Found Me’, which had previously leaked out on the internet, and ‘Party is Wherever I Am’. I can actually hear the latter being played in the clubs. And that’s saying something about Heidi’s music. But then again, some clubs still play some of Paris Hilton’s music so we can never really be sure.

American Idol Does iTunes Top 100

The American Idol Top 9 performed songs from the iTunes Top 100. Anoop Desai performed Usher’s ‘Caught Up’. Megan Joy performed ‘Turn Your Lights Down Low’ by Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill. Danny Gokey sang ‘What Hurts the Most’ by Rascal Flatts. Allison Iraheta sang No Doubt’s ‘Don’t Speak’. Scott MacIntyre sang Billy Joel’s ‘Just The Way You Are’. Matt Giraud sang The Fray’s ‘You Found Me’. Lil Rounds sang Celine Dion’s ‘I Surrender’. Adam Lambert sang ‘Play that Funky Music’ by Wild Cherry. And finally, Kris Allen sang ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ by Bill Withers. This week’s performances were underwhelming to say the least. The talents of the Idols this season just doesn’t fit with the pop genre.american_idol-tv_show

Taylor Swift Goes Pop

Considering how successful Taylor Swift’s career has been as a country singing superstar, would you ever think that she has it in her to do a crossover? The 19-year old cutie’s ‘You’re Not Sorry’ has gotten de-country-fied and has been given a pop makeover. Did I mention that I love it like there’s no tomorrow? The song has already been released on iTunes. I swear, once it hits the airwaves, it will turn into a huge smash. Just like practically everything that she does. Taylor is turning out to be this generation’s singing icon. I couldn’t have picked a better one to take that on.
