Lady Gaga’s Sister Makes Cameo

The Princess of Pop is keeping things in the family as it turns out that Lady Gaga’s 17-year old sister Natali Germanotta makes a cameo appearance in the epic that is more commonly known as the music video for ‘Telephone’. Designer Brian Lichtenberg revealed “When she [Gaga] is on the phone in jail, there’s a girl behind her that’s in the frame that looks a lot like Gaga. That’s her sister.” Go check out the video again and wait for the 2:37 mark. I wonder if she’s going to be a regular face to see now or if she’s going to forge her own path one day soon.

American Idol Top 12 Perform

American Idol’s top 12 aspiring singers took the stage yesterday. The contestants belted out music by The Rolling Stones. Big Mike was first with ‘Miss You’ but I don’t really car for his R&B take on it. Didi sang ‘Play with Fire’ and I think this was her best yet. Casey James was next with ‘It’s All Over Now’ with that country vibe that he shines in. Lacey Brown failed to deliver with ‘Ruby Tuesday’ but the judges gave her good critique despite having off key moments. Andrew Garcia finally got redeemed with ‘Gimme Shelter’. Katie Stevens sang a solid ‘Wild Horses’ up until the chorus where she had some pitch problems. Tim Urban sang reggae with ‘Under My Thumb’ that just didn’t work out. Siobhan Magnus has to have the best performance of the night with ‘Paint it Black’. Lee did a great job with ‘Beast of Burden’. Finally, Paige Miles proved she can sing by showing off a powerful voice. Aaron sang ‘Angie’ fine but something is just missing. Crystal is still my favorite with ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’. Who was your fave?

New Music from TI

He may still be working his way through a halfway house but rapper TI knows that he wants to get right back into the music business as soon as all of his prison and criminal stuff finally gets sorted out and done with. The rapper and convicted felon recently released a new single, aptly called ‘I’m Back’. If you’ve already heard of it, what do you think? Is TI back or does he need to get his stuff sorted out just a little more before he attempts to make new music again? I give kudos to him for giving it a good try though.

Robert Pattinson Talks Music

Robert Pattinson is talking about how he is now too famous to just go to open mic nights. The actor says “I used to write a lot more music by just doing gigs, just turning up to open mics and stuff with two lines of the song and then the pressure would force me to make something up on the spot. And I can’t really do that anymore, which was my main process for writing songs. When I sit down to write some lyrics it just sounds like rubbish. All the songs I’ve done before were based on as much of a stream of consciousness as you can get. I’ve been talking to people (producers) about stuff for ages, where I play a musician. I’d really like to, but it’s quite difficult to do. I think it’s a bit risky as well. I think I’m doing another movie after the movie I’m doing now but I think I’ll try and write some music, hopefully by the end of the year.” I actually like him as a singer. He was pretty good with the two songs that he had on the ‘Twilight’ soundtrack.

Lady Gaga Talks About Being a Role Model

Lady Gaga recently talked to MTV where the princess of pop talked about being a role model. The singer said “I find it so important now to be a role model and a figure. And I know that may sound strange to some people, but most important is my connection with my fans and the connection that they breed with one another.” That doesn’t sound strange to me at all. What’s better than to have a role model that’s been topping charts, winning Grammys left and right and has revived the music industry back to its golden glory? Nothing could be better than that!

No New Britney Spears Album in June

There has been speculation going around that 28-year old pop princess Britney Spears will be releasing a new album this coming June. However, there’s just no truth in the rumors. The singer’s label rep says “There is no scheduled release date for a Britney album at all. There has been zero discussion about it.” While Britney is in the process of creating new music, don’t expect her to be releasing her next album by June. Maybe her label is still trying to gauge if everything she’s going to do will be up to par before they discuss any release dates.

Rihanna Talks Music

Rihanna recently talked to MTV Korea about the sound of the new music she will soon be creating. The Barbadian beauty of a singer said “[My latest album] ‘Rated R’ — I love the sound of it, in terms of the bass. I really like the bottom, the grime of it. But if I were to combine that with more energetic, up tempo pop records, then I think that will be a happy marriage. And that’s where we’ll probably go next.” I wonder when she’s planning on making that new record. I sure hope that it would be a departure from ‘Rated R’. To be honest, I wasn’t too fond of it.

New MIA

Get ready because we may be hearing new music from MIA sooner than expected. The female rapper posted some sort of cryptic messages on her Twitter last week regarding a new album. MIA wrote “BANNED FROM LEAVING THE U.S, FAMILY BANNED FROM COMING TO U.S TO SEE ME , BABY, RECORDING LP, SIGNING THE DOPEST ACTS THATS HITTIN 2010. JUNE 2010. I THINK IM READY.” I know that she had a baby boy and was doing all that fun stuff but I think it’s about time that she return to the music scene. It’s been almost three years! I’m so excited for this one!

Timbaland Talks Madonna

Timbaland recently had an interview where he talked about respect in the music industry. The rapper/producer even talked about singer Madonna. He said of the Queen of Pop “People do not respect music anymore… They go by what’s hot… If you’re hot, you deserve 4 or 5 Grammys. Madonna is a genius and she only has 2 or 3 Grammys… What is that about?” Timbaland absolutely has a point. Madonna is a musical genius and she hasn’t gotten much recognition for everything that she’s done. People just go with what’s hot these days and don’t really care much about music.

Ke$ha Talks Adam Lambert

Ke$ha recently put together a 34 song playlist at Songza.com to share what music she’s been grooving to. The 22-year old singer even left comments about each song that she put on the list. One of the songs in the playlist was Adam Lambert’s ‘Whataya Want from Me’. Ke$ha said about the song “My new boyfriend, Adam Lambert! I’m not trying to start any rumors; I just love him. We met a few days ago, and both of us had so much glitter on our faces that planets almost collided. I just think he’s fantastic, and I do have a crush!” Don’t worry dear. I doubt that you’re the American Idol alum’s type.

Lady Gaga Headlines Lollapalooza

It is being reported by industry sources that Lady Gaga may be headlining Chicago’s three day music festival Lollapalooza alongside Green Day and Sound Garden. However, this wouldn’t be the princess of pop’s first time performing at the music fest. The singer rocked the show before her ‘Fame Monster’ days back when she was still a brunette in 2007. I hope the news is true that Lady Gaga will be a headliner on the fest. That would be one amazing show! And it should be quite an experience for those people who saw her back in 2007 and then be able to see her this year.

No Doubt Makes Progress

While at Fashion Week debuting some of her new designs for LAMB, Gwen Stefani shared that her band No Doubt is making some real headway in the studio. The singer explains that they are having a lot of fun working on new material, working with stuff that the guys had written while she was on her solo tour as well as incorporating some heavy influence from music of the 80s. Gwen said “The last few weeks, we’ve been listening to the worst of the ’80s, in the sense of bad but good. Pop songs, one-hit wonders, nifty songs, things like that. You just go back and find things that you love, and try to figure out how they made them. We just listen to good songs, and then writing our own stuff, we try to pull it out wherever we can.”

Sade on Top

Sade may have been missing in action for close to a decade but her fans sure know where to find her. According to one-day sales reports, the singer’s new album ‘Soldier of Love’ will debut at the top spot this week. Her sales for a single day have reportedly totaled between 400,000 to 425,000. That number could have easily gone up after the snow storms have backed off on the east coast and given that Valentine’s weekend just passed. I couldn’t have thought of a better gift for any music lover than Sade’s new record. Here’s to hoping she doesn’t disappear again.

Rihanna Talks New Video

Rihanna has a new music video out for her song ‘Rude Boy’. The highly stylized video was directed by Melina Matsoukas who also helmed the video for ‘Hard’. When the Barbadian singer was asked about her latest release, she said “[The video] completely different from any other video I’ve shot before. A lot of my videos are really dark and edgy and tough. ‘Rude Boy’ is more playing along the lines from my roots… We used a lot of color, but also the costumes were very Jamaican dance-hall queen type.” It’s definitely a departure from the last couple of videos that she’s put out.

Bonnaroo Line Up Announced

The line up to the Bonnaroo music festival is slowly being leaked out and there are some pretty big names on the list that was just announced. Heading to Tennessee this June will be the likes of Jay-Z, Weezer, Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, the Flaming Lips and Steve Martin. Those are pretty big draws. I wonder who else will be joining the music and arts festival. It seems pretty interesting so far but I’m still debating on whether I want to watch it. I think they need to add a couple more artists to the line up that would appeal to more people.

Ryan Tedder Talks Leona Lewis

OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder has been responsible for a lot of hits these days but for some unknown reason, the single he co-wrote for Leona Lewis called ‘Happy’ never broke in America. The singer says that he knows why it didn’t perform as well in the US saying “In the US, unless you’re Justin Timberlake or Beyoncé, you cannot put out a song and not be in the country when it comes out. Leona was gone for six weeks when ‘Happy’ came out because she was promoting the record in other countries - it wasn’t her fault; she just couldn’t be two places in once. I had radio stations telling me that they thought ‘Happy’ was the single biggest ballad they’d come across in ten years, but that if Leona didn’t come over here and promote it, it was going to fall. On top of that, America’s consumed with Lady GaGa and dance music right now, so it’s not the best time for ballads anyway. When everything on the radio is blasting out at 120 bpm, a song like ‘Happy’ almost sounds out-of-place.” He has a point.

Jessica Simpson Not Dating Billy Corgan

A source close to Jessica Simpson says that despite the reports, the singer is not actually dating Billy Corgan. The source said “Jessica loved spending so much time in and out of the studio with Billy. She’s in awe of his musical prowess, and it adds to her feelings for him, but they are not dating. Dating Jessica publicly can be intense. Billy maintains a quiet, private music-focused life and the taste of publicity he got while being with Jessica was an eye opener. Billy likes Jessica, but he will work to keep their relationship as it is and focus on the music. They are not getting serious, but Jessica has had so much fun with him.”
