Lady Gaga on Discount

Lady Gaga knows exactly what’s going on in the world and that’s why the pop princess has plans on bringing each and everyone a little bit of joy by releasing a reasonably-priced standard version of her new album ‘The Fame Monster’. The singer said in a statement “In the midst of my creative journey composing The Fame Monster, there came an exciting revelation that this was in fact my sophomore album. I would not add, nor take away any songs from this EP. It is a complete conceptual and musical body of work that can stand on its own two feet. It doesn’t need The Fame… We may have an economy, but music has no economy. I will release four or more singles from The Fame Monster, tour the world with the Monster Ball Tour and most importantly, I insist on honoring my fans with an affordable new album, an album that is as loyal to them, as they have been me.”

Taylor Swift Makes CMA History

At 19 years old, Taylor Swift rocked the Country Music Association Awards this past Wednesday by winning all 4 awards for which she was nominated and making her the youngest person and first female solo act to win the Country Music Association’s entertainer of the year award. The golden girl of a singer said “I’ll never forget this moment because in this moment everything that I have ever wanted has just happened to me. Every single person in that category let me open up for them this year. Thank you all so much. I love you.” Taylor brought her band on stage to help her celebrate and her father was shown crying in the audience. Congratulations!

Mariah Carey Finally Gets It

Mariah Carey has released a new song. And with that release, I can unofficially say that her mediocre streak has finally come to an end. ‘100%’ was written for the singer’s Oscar-worthy new film ‘Precious’. And as much as I hate to say it, I like the song. No, scratch that. I absolutely love the song. It’s too bad that whoever chose this song to be sung by her and to be part of the film wasn’t the same person who was working on what songs to put on her album too. I’m sure whoever that guy was could have made a world of difference with the way her music career is going if he was.

Rihanna to Give Worldwide Live Performance

With Rihanna’s album ‘Rated R’ being released on November 23rd, the singer and her camp are doing everything to ensure it’s a success, especially after the mixed reaction to the first few singles. The Barbadian babe has teamed up with Nokia to help with promotions. On November 16th, Nokia will stream a live performance of Rihanna in London for fans to get an exclusive first listen of her album. The event will allow viewers to preview her tracks from the new record with the whole thing being done in a secret location. In addition, Nokia will also offer an exclusive version of the album via the Nokia Music store. Rihanna said of the partnering, “I am so excited to partner up with Nokia. They are doing some really revolutionary things with this album, enabling me to reach more fans than ever before.”

Glee Goes Gold

The ‘Glee’ cast recording of Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ has been certified gold after being downloaded over half a million times. And that’s just the legal downloads. With their tracks selling big time on iTunes, it was bound to happen sooner or later anyway. Actress Lea Michele talked about it saying “The great thing about our show is that some of the songs that we do sound very close to the original and others are completely re-done and ‘mashed up.’ It’s great that we’ve brought these old songs back and we’ve put a new twist to them, while still honoring the amazing songs that they are. Matthew Morrison added “I feel like we’re revitalizing the music industry. The younger generation hears songs they never heard before through our show. And I’ll be bold as to say that I think some of the records we’re doing are even better than the originals.”

Adam Lambert Talks Album Cover

After receiving some harsh criticism after he unveiled his gender-bending album cover, American Idol alum Adam Lambert took to his Twitter to let everyone know what he thinks and giving no apologies. The singer tweeted “Thank you to those who appreciate and understand that the album cover is deliberately campy. It’s an omage to the past. It IS ridiculous. For those that don’t get it: oh well… Glad to have gotten your attention.” He gets an A for effort on spelling “homage” without the h. I for one love the album cover. I just hope the rest of his music is as fabulous.

Madonna is Filled with Glee

Here’s some big news for fans of ‘Glee’. Madonna has given the Fox hit TV show the rights to her entire music catalog. I wonder if this means that there will be an episode strictly with the singer’s music in the works. In a word – yes! The all Queen of Pop episode of ‘Glee’ is said to air early next year. I can’t wait to find out which of Madonna’s songs they will be using. Moreover, I can’t wait to hear their renditions of them. Here’s to hoping that Cory Monteith’s dancing will have improved by then. What songs do you want to see on the show?

Shakira is Cool with Illegal Downloads

While Lily Allen is on a major tirade about people illegally downloading her music, Latina singer Shakira thinks that it’s cool and has absolutely no problem with her fans basically stealing money from her. In a recent interview, Shakira explained that she felt closer to the “fans and the people who appreciate the music” when her music is downloaded, illegal or otherwise. She said “It’s the democratisation of music in a way. And music is a gift. That’s what it should be, a gift.” That is definitely the nicest way of looking at it. But then again, it’s easy to think that way when you have loads of money stored away somewhere.

Guns N Roses on Tour

Axl Rose must be scraping the bottom of his cash barrel and really looking forward to getting any cash. In addition to selling out and handing over his catalog to be turned into children’s music, his band Guns N Roses is now going on tour in Canada. I’m not exactly sure how and why they were booked since their comeback album wasn’t a success. The tour will kick off on January 13th in Winnipeg and will continue across the country, wrapping up on February 4th in Halifax. Tickets go on sale today for $50 to $90. Why they think that people will pay that much to see a has-been band without all the original members is beyond me.

Madonna Lawsuit

Karen George, a neighbor of Madonna’s, has slapped the Queen of Pop with a lawsuit claiming that the singer has transformed her Central Park West apartment into a rehearsal space and that the entire building has to put up with her blaring music, stomping and shaking walls daily. According to the legal documents, “unreasonably high-decibel, amplified music” seeps through the walls, ceilings and radiators for three hours a day. The co-op board has reportedly threatened Madonna with the consequence of eviction with the entire building fuming over the daily dance parties. I love Madonna but only at a reasonable volume and time.

Leona Lewis Speaks Out

After cancelling her book tour after getting assaulted, Leona Lewis took to her website to explain her side of the story. The singer wrote “Thank you so much for your support it is truly overwhelming. Yesterday was a horrible shock and left me extremely hurt and upset. I’m very sorry to those I wasn’t able to meet at the signing. Thank you again for all of the lovely messages.” Not only is she a darling when it comes to her music, she’s a darling when it comes to being a celebrity. I’m pretty sure that there’s not a lot of celebrities would be so gracious after being punched in the head.

Chris Brown Works His Way Back to the Scene

Chris Brown has slowly been working his way back into the music world. The 20-year old R&B singer’s recent single ‘I Can Transform Ya’ featuring Lil Wayne has been doing well and his 2008 hit ‘Forever’ managed to work its way back to the top spot on the iTunes R&B chart. A new single called ‘So Cold’ was also just leaked onto the internet earlier this week and Chris went on his Twitter to talk about it saying “OMG as you all know a song leaked today from my album called so cold.. im a lil upset but i pray my album doesnt leak..” I hope it does so no one has to buy it and his album will be a sales flop.

Guns N Roses Deny Lawsuit Claims

As previously reported, indie record labels Independieate and Domino Recording Company both filed a lawsuit against Guns N Roses claiming that the band copied two songs for their album ‘Chinese Democracy’. Both labels own the licensing rights to German musician Ulrich Schnauss’ music and claim that the band used the songs on the track ‘Riad N the Bedouins’ and are asking for $1 million in damages. GNR’s manager says that the band vigorously contests those claims saying “The band believed when the record came out and still believes that there are no unauthorized samples on the track. The snippets of ‘ambient noise’ in question were provided by a member of the album’s production team who has assured us that these few seconds of sound were obtained legitimately. Artists these days can’t read the minds of those they collaborate with and therefore are unfortunately vulnerable to claims like this one. While the band resents the implication that they would ever use another artist’s work improperly and are assessing possible counterclaims, they are confident this situation will be satisfactorily resolved.”

Lady Gaga Talks Cancelled Tour

Lady Gaga was at the Billboard Women in Music event in New York City last Friday to receive the Rising Star Award when she decided to talk about the cancellation of her joint tour with Kanye West. The singer said “It was a mutual decision. Kanye’s going to take some time off. But the good news is that I’m going on tour in a few weeks.” The rapper should just admit it that he’s still reeling from the backlash he got from that VMA incident involving Taylor Swift. He definitely needs some serious time off from being in the spotlight.

Warner Music Settles with YouTube

Warner Music Group has finally reached an agreement with YouTube that will allow label artists to put up their music videos on the site. Videos from the Warner label were removed from the streaming site after licensing agreement talks broke down last December over financial disagreements. However, though the details of the agreement have yet to become public knowledge, executives say that Warner Music will “receive the majority of advertising revenue generated around the music clips.” All that’s left now is for YouTube and Viacom/MTV to kiss and make up and the world will be a great and happy place again.

Michael Jackson’s Guitar Goddess Orianthi Readies Debut Album

Introducing Orianthi, the guitar phenomenon who is featured prominently in the upcoming Michael Jackson concert documentary, This Is It. Already a renowned musician, Orianthi has been playing guitar since the age of eleven and was discovered by legend Carlos Santana. After playing with artists like Carrie Underwood, ZZ Top, and Prince, she received a MySpace message from Michael Jackson’s musical director asking her to audition for his comeback tour. Following a test run with the King of Pop himself, she was selected as his lead guitarist for his O2 arena dates in London - a crowning acheivement for the 24 year old from Adelaide, Australia.

Now Orianthi is preparing to release her solo debut album, Believe, on October 27th. In addition to her talent at guitar, Orianthi has a gorgeous voice and even sang at Michael Jackson’s Staples Center memorial service. Even before starting rehearsals for his tour though, she was hard at work writing and recording the album with her band. Believe is full of anthemic rock tracks with a sound reminiscent of Paramore or Evanescence, but entirely Orianthi thanks to her signature shreds and thunderous hooks. Her first single, “According to You” is a catchy tale of an ungrateful boyfriend, featuring a killer guitar solo.

To hear the story in her own words, watch Orianthi in this segment from Australia’s Today show. Visit Orianthi.com for updates on this rising star, and be sure to check her out in This Is It out on October 28th.

MTV VMAs Pumped Up Music Sales

It’s been a long time since I found myself able to say this but MTV is actually driving music sales up! While the public’s reaction to Kanye West’s behavior during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech seems to be the most talked about stunt at this year’s VMAs, the music itself is also getting some recognition. All of the performers at the show are seeing a huge increase in their music sales including Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Jay-Z, Pink and Taylor, whose iTunes sales went up by 80%. British band Muse also performed for the first time on American TV and the sale of their album skyrocketed as a result of the VMAs.

New Sarah McLachlan

Sarah McLachlan only releases new music a couple of times within a decade so this should be some very special news for fans of the singer. One of my all time favorite musicians has written and recorded the theme song to the 2010 Winter Olympics which will take place in Vancouver. The tune is called ‘One Dream’ and its typical Sarah – lush vocals, lush instrumentation and lush lyrics. I love it! The song will be used in all of NBC’s promos for the games. Sarah is also said to be releasing an album of new material next year. I’ll believe that when I see it. I do hope that it’s true though.
