U2 Concert to Stream Live on YouTube

California, US: U2 have confirmed via video blog that their sold-out concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California, Sunday 25th October 2009 will be streamed free, in full and live on YouTube. It’s the first time a show of this size will be streamed live.

The Rose Bowl show is the penultimate U2 show this year - with more to come in 2010 - and already is set to host the venue’s biggest ever audience of over 96, 000 fans. The 360? Tour, which has been critically acclaimed and “re-invents rock’n’roll”*, will now boast unique access for fans worldwide - as fans in territories yet to be visited by the tour, or not at all, will be able to enjoy the whole show online. Managed in partnership with Live Nation, this sell-out tour has broken attendance records in most venues it has visited - its success due in part to increased capacity coupled with a lower ticket price and great sight lines afforded by the stunning in-the-round stage set. Visit U2.com or youtube.com/u2official for details of how to join in this ground-breaking on-line event.

U2 manager Paul McGuinness said - “The band has wanted to do something like this for a long time. As we’re filming the LA show, it’s the perfect opportunity to extend the party beyond the stadium. Fans often travel long distances to come to see U2 - this time U2 can go to them, globally.”

YouTube will be streaming live across five continents. The show will be available in the usual You Tube way, as video-on-demand, following two full replays - after the live stream - on both U2.com and You Tube.

“YouTube is thrilled to be able to provide our global audience with a live streaming performance from one of the world’s greatest bands” - Chris Maxcy, Director of YouTube Partner Development. “We are always looking for new ways to connect fans around the world with their favourite artists, and this is the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

U2: Bunch of Hypocrites

U2 has long been preaching about world hunger and environmental issues but the band has ignited some harsh criticism over the cost of their recent world tour. The 3 steel structures that make up the band’s custom-built stage cost between £15 and £20 million each and is easily the most ambitious endeavour of any world tour. Talking Heads singer David Byrne offered his thoughts saying “$40 million to build the stage and, having done the math, we estimate 200 semi trucks crisscrossing Europe for the duration. It could be professional envy speaking here, but it sure looks like, well, overkill, and just a wee bit out of balance given all the starving people in Africa and all.”

U2’s political message

The Irish rock band who is kicking off their world tour in Thailand has been advising fans to take a stand with regards to the imprisonment of Aung Sang Suu Kyi. The following statement can be read on U2’s official website: “Wear it to work or college. Wear it on the bus or the train. Wear it in the pub or at shops. And don’t forget. Bring it to a U2 show.” This reffers to the Suu Kyi masks U2 is encouraging their fans to wear. Wow this sounds so V for Vendetta-ish… one must wonder, is there a revolution coming?

American Idols Do Judges’ Choice

There are 4 judges on American Idol and only 3 contestants left. That makes one of the oddest situations in Idol history as 1 judge was likely to not have been chosen to pick a song. It turned out that Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi “collaborated” on choosing Kris Allen’s song ‘Apologize’. Paula Abdul got to make the first judge’s choice of the night as she had Danny Gokey sing ‘Dance Little Sister’. It was a song that he admittedly did not know but he did a fair job on it. Simon Cowell picked for Adam Lambert, giving him, if I’m right, the first ever U2 song on Idol – ‘One’.

U2’s new single, “Magnificent”

U2’s new single, “Magnificent,” was released on May 4th by Mercury Records.

The video for “Magnificent” was directed by French filmmaker Alex Courtes. Alex also directed the video for the band’s previous single, “Get On Your Boots,” and alongside his former creative partner Martin Fougeral won a Grammy award for the “Vertigo” video. The video for “Magnificent” was shot in the historic city of Fez, Morocco last month.

“Magnificent,” the second single from No Line On The Horizon, will be available in the UK as a download and on 7″ vinyl. The vinyl single will be backed with a live version of album track Breathe, recorded in the Somerville Theatre in Boston earlier this year.

U2 Single Gets Justice Remix

U2, arguably one of the greatest rock bands of all time, has teamed up with A-list production team Justice to bring fans a mind-altering remix of epic proportions. The pairing of super stars and super producers on “Get On Your Boots,” the first single from U2’s No Line On The Horizon, can be heard exclusively on Stereogum.com.

For more information on U2, including tour dates and news, can be found on the band’s official site U2.com. No Line On The Horizon is in stores now!

Bono’s U2 fears

The front man from U2 fears that the band’s current world tour might turn out to be their last. Bono had this to say about the future of U2: “We want to play for each other as much as we want to play for the crowd this time. You just don’t know how long you are going to be doing this. When we walk out on stage, the hairs on people’s necks go up - but what people don’t know is that the hairs on our necks go up too.” That going up of the hairs thing must be from the static electricity. Still, Bono does put up the problem very seriously… I wonder if he actually believes it. But either way, he should look on the bright side: no more band, much more time for all of his other projects and ambitions. Come to think of it, this might actually spark the beginning of Bono’s long awaited dictatorship. bono

Bono Hits Chris Martin Below the Belt

After remembering that U2 is losing their cultural relevance at a very fast pace, Bono quickly apologized for a jab he made at Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin on BBC Radio. Bono was on BBC Radio 1 promoting U2’s new album when he let his mouth yap on about Chris saying “I think he’s that good a melodist, but he’s a wanker… He’s obviously a completely dysfunctional character and a cretin.” I just think he’s cranky over people calling Coldplay the so-called New U2. Bono quickly backtracked though telling the radio show host “I think they [Coldplay] are a great band and actually, it turns out he’s a great soul as well. Sorry about that. I was just joking entirely.” Sure he was.

U2 conduct free concert gig in London

Irish rock band U2 treated fans to a free concert on Friday February 27th by performing live on top of a rooftop in Central London. The location for the 20 minute concert was set on the roof of BBC’s Broadcasting House in front of 5,000 fans.

Now no one and mind you no one can keep their words as well as U2 have managed to do here, just a couple of days ago the band has spoken publicly that they would consider slashing the prices of their tickets whenever they would undertake a world tour to promote their latest album No Line On The Horizon.

But just within days of saying so they have actually performed live and that too for free although it does promote their latest album but where in the world would you have to chance to see U2 perform live for free.

Really a fans ultimate delight that he does not have to pay a penny to watch these fantastic performers do what they do best and enjoy their music in the wildest of ways. u2
